Job Overview/Summary: The Sustainability Senior Advisor on the Global Supply Chain team has the responsibility for developing strategies and specific plans to meet donor requirements regarding climate action, sustainability efforts in general and achieving NetZero carbon emissions. This requires developing strategies to meet these requirements in coordination with other climate action efforts and through gaining agreement through effective partnership and communication. This role requires building positive relationships with cross functional partners to work together to build a shared vision, ownership, and follow-through by developing the vital organizational change plans, developing innovative solutions, landing quick wins, and influencing crucial changes across the organization’s processes and behaviors.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional team(s) in the development of a Net Zero strategy and associated net-zero road map. Includes the establishment of our Science Based Targets (SBTi) related to Environmental Sustainability, including interim GHG emission reduction targets with program objectives, charters, project plans, goals, communications, tools, etc.
  • Develop comprehensive action plans detailing the investments and resourcing required to achieve committed SBTi in the desired timeframes.
  • Lead engagement with employees, external partners, industry leaders, and other stakeholders in the development of opportunities for GHG reduction
  • Benchmark goals and progress against sector peers to identify leadership opportunities, trends, reputational risks, and threats.
  • In collaboration with AMU Compliance and Policy, identify and supervise the environmental and regulatory compliance issues for our sector
  • Analyze, develop strategies, and find opportunities to integrate the Net Zero program into organizational plans, roadmaps, and goals. This specifically includes evaluation of business partners’ plans to drive net zero decarbonization plans across key areas of IRC’s value chain.
  • Scope includes our operational environmental impacts, including scope 1, 2, and scope 3 GHG emissions, waste generated, water consumption, and green lease initiatives covering all owned and operated energy assets and locations, including warehouses and leased offices.
  • Educate staff on sustainability standard processes. Communicate internally on company wide progress in diverse media formats. Engage staff in Green activities to build awareness. Support sustainability training and goal setting for staff
  • Represent IRC in interagency sustainability working groups

Job Requirements:

  • 8 – 10 years of relevant environmental sustainability, supply chain and/or product life cycle experience, or equivalent consulting experience
  • Experience developing Net Zero strategies as well as managing plan implementation in a non-profit global organization.
  • Qualifications in science-based solutions to sustainability and climate actions; Be the subject matter authority for emissions reductions and sustainability across the organization.
  • NGO experience preferred with detailed understanding of institutional donors’ (including but not limited to USG, FCDO, ECHO, World Bank) policies relating to climate action and sustainability
  • Demonstrable experience and subject matter expertise in Scope 3 GHG emissions reduction strategies, measurement and reporting
  • Familiarity with life cycle assessment (LCA) concepts and life cycle thinking and understanding of its application to Scope 3 emissions
  • A proven understanding of environmental sustainability standards and guidelines – particularly as related to climate change, water stewardship and waste management/minimization accounting and reporting
  • Demonstrated experience with handling sophisticated projects and leading change across an organization
  • Understanding of procurement systems and processes, supplier engagement practices and value chain sustainability challenges
  • Proactive communicator who can develop communication strategies for the leadership level and broader organization
  • Knowledge of greenhouse gas accounting and reporting standards. Experience with TCFD, CDP, SBTi, and GRI is a plus.
  • Able to collect information from disparate sources, coordinate, process, and analyse for effective and impactful communications
  • Ability to effectively communicate sustainability value and impact to influence decision makers
  • Consistent track record of working with sophisticated datasets, both qualitative and quantitative, and presenting data insights through data visualization and storytelling methods
  • Strong project management skills and experience handling sophisticated, long-term workstreams and initiatives.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with proven experience delivering content for senior leadership and external leaders.
  • Contribute to internal and external reporting and communications on program progress.
  • Strong research, data analysis, data visualization, graphic design, and writing skills

Working Environment:   Office work environment.

Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget.  Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
