Organizational Setting

The FAO Representation in Bangladesh is responsible for leading FAO's response to regional priorities for food security, agriculture and rural development through the identification, planning, and implementation of FAO's priority activities in the country. It ensures a multidisciplinary approach to programmes, identifies priority areas of action for the Organization in Bangladesh and, in collaboration with Regional Office Asia and Pacific and the departments and divisions at Headquarters, develops, promotes and oversees FAO's strategic response to the country priorities. The representation also supports the regional office in the incorporation of regional priorities into the Organization's Programme of Work and Budget and implements approved programmes and projects in the country, monitors the level of programme implementation and draws attention to problems and deficiencies. The office also develops and maintains relations with Government of Bangladesh, UN agencies, the resource partners and other development institution at the country level.

Reporting Lines

This position will work under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Bangladesh and the direct supervision of the AFAOR (Admin)/Programme/Project Team Leaders/operations and in close coordination with admin/ operations staff.

Technical Focus

The driver is responsible to perform driving services for the Country Office and projects in FAO Bangladesh. S/he also provides support on pick-up/drop off, delivery of the documents, and messenger services for his clients/offices. The incumbent ensures the safety and comfort of the passengers and longevity of the vehicles assigned. He shows a high sense of responsibility and trustworthiness and handles his passengers and clients with utmost courtesy and respect.
In his/her function as Driver for the FAO Country Office and projects, the incumbent will be in regular contact with all staff of the country office and projects, national and international visitors, sr. level management and officials from the Government and other (UN) Agencies, project managers, consultants including other personnel from within and outside of the Organization.
The incumbent's work impacts on the timely and efficient delivery of the FAO-BD’s field programme activities.

Tasks and responsibilities

The incumbent will undertake the following activities:

• Drive and maintain the assigned vehicle of the country office and/or project(s);
• Conduct routine checks such as battery, engine oil, water level, tire conditions, brakes, oil filter, air filter etc;
• Keep updated log-books for the assigned vehicle, obtain passenger signatures for each trip verifying starting and ending odometer readings and noting odometer readings at refuelling;
• Ensure that regular servicing, maintenance and repair work is monitored and are also done/completed on time with high standard (in consultation with transport supervisor);
• Adhere to all rules and requirements as per Government of Bangladesh and UN/FAO procedures, including in case of accidents or emergencies;
• Maintain the vehicle that is clean, free from cigarette smoke, food or garbage, and in a good condition, including all equipment;
• Take appropriate precautions for the security of the vehicle and its contents at all times, including when left unattended;
• Ensure office vehicle is properly and securely parked in the designated place during and/or non-working hours;
• Support and ensure to dispatch or collect the letters/documents to the respective government offices, departments, other UN agencies, Donors including other stakeholders;
• Follow the rules, procedures, practices with regard to FAO vehicle operations and UNDSS radio communication policies and procedures;
• Be professional, courteous in all engagements; stay calm and positive even in difficult moments, handle tense situations with diplomacy and tact, and have a consistent behaviour towards others.
• Plan the route and other requirements as necessary;
• Support to the staff/consultants/missions on immigration and customs formalities as required;
• Escort: meet high-level official personnel at the airport and facilitate VIP missions etc.;
• Demonstrate an appreciation and respect for the multicultural nature of the organization and the diversity of its staff;
• Must be willing to help/support the office with any other assistance when needed;
• Willingness to support during the weekends, in case of any urgent/emergency nature of activities;
• Regular review/check up on the fitness, insurance, registration validity, battery etc. and inform to transport manager well ahead for further taking action;
• Perform any other related tasks as assigned from the office or by the respective supervisor;


CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING


Minimum Requirements

• Mid-level education, at least 8th standard.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in any reputed organization, preference will be given to candidate who have work experience in UN environment.
• Good understanding of verbal and written communication in English.
• National of Bangladesh.
