Result of Service

The work produced will help enhance the design and layout of digital and printed communication products of the UN Global Response Group providing timely services in support of design and layout consistent with appropriate UN policies, guidelines and procedures. The overall result will bring an intersectional design to communications on unimpeded access of food and fertilizer to global markets.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of a Senior Programme Coordinator, the individual contractor will support the UN Global Crisis Response Group working closely with the Task Team of the Trade Facilitation Initiative to provide clear, timely and engaging graphic design service to illustrate in a user-friendly way information of various nature, including statistics and data. The individual contractor will use typography, color, data visualization and visually innovative layout within the UNCTAD brand scope to deliver accessible visual content for key audiences focused on rendering understandable key trade content related to food and fertilizer as key elements of global food security. He/she will provide artistic perspective to optimize the process of sharing knowledge among staff members and creating common understanding to enhance inclusion and set up a transformative approach.

Qualifications/special skills

High school diploma or equivalent in the field of art and visual communication.
A minimum of five years of experience in desktop publishing, graphic design and layout, or related area.
Experience in building sound communication supports (both print and online), including through web-based and digital supports. Experience in managing Word-press websites.
Knowledge of standard design tools (Adobe Creative Suite, In-Design, Illustrators, Photoshop, After Effect, Adobe Premiere), data analytics tools and user experience (web accessibility) issues desirable.
Experience working in international organizations is an asset.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

Additional Information

The main functions will be to create visuals for communication materials; bilingual\ multilingual graphics developed including infographics, power point presentations, reports brochures, fact sheets, data sets, interactive media video animation. The individual contractor will work in close collaboration with the UNCTAD team to ensure a smooth communication and to keep up with the tight deadlines. The tasks indicated below are to be delivered throughout the duration of the contract.

• Develop designs/infographics/animations for communication materials including in social media.
• Transform text-based communications materials into visual graphic design materials such as presentations, infographic, brochures, backdrop etc.
• Conceptualize and develop designs, infographics and animations for communication materials including in social media.
• Provide recommendations on the best and most relevant inclusive visual design style and materials suitable for diverse audience.
• Create web versions of the products (for example including hyperlinks in PDF versions of reports and ensure correct formats and file size for the web).
• Design proposals.
