Introduction
The mission of the Green Climate Fund is to assist developing countries to respond to climate change while bringing prosperity to their people. Established in 2010, the GCF invests in transformational climate projects in the developing world. The Fund makes an ambitious contribution to global climate action and channels significant financial resources into developing countries to help build low-emission and climate-resilient societies. It is country-driven and undertakes actions that reflect the circumstances of each country concerned and its national aspirations. The GCF is a key enabler of the 2015 Paris Agreement on Climate Change. Since its establishment, the GCF has approved 190 projects in 123 countries and has committed USD 10 billion in climate finance. In addition, it has built up an extensive program to support developing countries to identify their needs, in particular, those who are most vulnerable to climate change impacts. The GCF’s diverse workforce is advancing its mission from its headquarters in South Korea. Internship Assignment  

 

The Intern will provide operational and administrative support to the ​DCP Asia Regional Desks​. S/he will have the opportunity to learn and expand her/his experiences by providing assistance in the ​deployment of Country Programming and Readiness processes and tools. ​The Intern will report to the Regional Manager – Asia and will also work closely with other relevant DCP staff and consultant. 

 

Under the overall guidance of the Regional Manager - Asia within the DCP Asia Regional Desk, the Intern is expected to: 

 

  1. Provide analytical support to Asia Regional Desk in the assessment of Country Programming activities. 

  1. Provide support to Asia Regional Desk in the deployment and continuous improvement of Readiness processes and tools. This may include, inter alia, supporting the update of Readiness guidance and training documents, and consolidating data required as inputs to Board report and Secretariat policy development.  

  1. Assists in secretarial tasks (i.e. organizing meetings, preparing minutes and briefs for internal and external meetings) and the preparation of PowerPoint presentations, including presentations for Events/ Meetings and other readiness needs, as appropriate. 

  1. Support the strengthening of dialogues, engagements, and other relationship management activities with National Designated Authorities (NDAs) and Direct Access Entities (DAEs) in the Asia region. 

  1. Supports the Asia Desk, as required, with the tracking of the Readiness pipeline, including uploading of documents to GCF’s internal file management systems and on the website in coordination with the communications team, and assisting in follow-ups to governments (NDAs) and delivery partners. 

  1. Support the Asia Desk in the gathering and analysis of additional country data, as required. 

  1. Conduct analytical work, on the status of the readiness support offered to countries in the Asia region, as required. 

  1. Support Asia Desk in the first level review of country programmes and entity work programmes. 

  1. Develop at least one knowledge management product, highlighting some of the lessons learned and best practices, from the preparation of Country Programmes or Readiness needs. 

  1. Track the status of Country Proposal Development – both across the global portfolio and assisting the Regional Manager to track the progress of CPs/EWPs towards key milestones in countries and entities. 

  1. Develop written briefs, as requested, in preparation of key country and entity engagements including regional programming events. 

  1. Conduct analytical work, on the status of the GCF Project pipeline, as required. 

  1. Support the tracking of the Division of Country Programmes KPIs, with a specific focus to Asia desk on those relating to programming and project origination. 

 

Requirements and qualifications 

 

  1. Enrolled in or recently graduated from a Master’s program in public policy, sustainable development, climate change or related fields;  

  1. Knowledge and experience with working with developing country governments is an advantage;  

  1. Good understanding and experience in operations of international organization is an added advantage; 

  1. Proficiency in using standard software programs: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access; 

  1. Excellent writing and presentation skills; 

  1. Fluency in English is essential; knowledge of another United Nations language, and in particular Arabic is an advantage.

The above criteria should be seen as indicators of the experience and skills that would qualify candidates for consideration. Selection among short-listed candidates will also take into account performance at interview, appropriate testing, and references.
