Accurate diagnosis requires the right mix of affordable and high-quality technology and health system efficiency. Not only is it important to choose the right technologies for each healthcare setting, there are also several essential health services that need to be functioning for testing to be delivered effectively. Many countries are still working to establish both the technology infrastructure and the associated health systems required. As such, testing remains a critical gap for many diseases.

CHAI’s Global Diagnostics Team works closely with governments, manufacturers, donors and other agencies to improve access to high-quality, affordable diagnostics in low- and middle-income countries. CHAI takes a patient-centric and holistic approach that focuses on introducing innovative diagnostic technologies and delivery systems that are proven through evidence generation, catalytic adoption, and scale-up by national governments. CHAI helps establish the conditions to support high-quality diagnostic systems, especially for primary health care. We support governments to build diagnostic networks that maximize testing coverage and referral to care while reducing costs. Our focus is on accelerating access to high-quality and affordable diagnostics through coordinated engagement with both the supply and demand sides of the market.

Position:

CHAI operates across seven countries in the Asia-Pacific region, and has ongoing diagnostics programs and priorities in several of these countries. In order to support the diagnostics program in the region, CHAI is seeking to hire two highly motivated individuals with outstanding credentials, strong analytical abilities, and superior problem-solving and communication skills. The candidates must be self-driven, resourceful, collaborative, adaptable and have a high level of comfort with ambiguity. The positions can be offered at either the Associate or Senior Associate level, depending on the candidate profile and skillset.

Provide strategic, technical, and programmatic support to CHAI’s diagnostics programs across Asia-Pacific countries:

• Work closely with country teams to develop their diagnostics strategy and workplans, aligned with global CHAI diagnostics strategy and country-specific needs
• Provide day-to-day thought partnership and technical guidance to country programs on topics such as diagnostics-related national policies, procurement and supply chain management, healthcare worker trainings, data management, etc
• Develop high quality deliverables to support countries’ programmatic objectives, including presentations, concept notes, tools, and models
• Collect, consolidate, and share lessons learned and best practices (strategies, tools, and experience) across country programs to maximize impact of learnings
• ~20-30% international travel may be required, majority of which is expected to be within the Asia-Pacific region

Support regional diagnostics-related initiatives in the Asia-Pacific region:

• Work closely with and strengthen a regional diagnostics body that is focused on south-to south knowledge sharing and capacity building amongst countries in the region
• Support other regional initiatives such as the Asia-Pacific Diagnostics Consortium, as needed

Drive cross-cutting global work streams, projects, and communications:

• Lead the drafting of grant reports and presentations, concept notes and fundraising proposals
• Contribute to CHAI’s global diagnostics strategy development efforts
• Support development and implementation of special projects to further global impact

• Ability to think strategically, handle ambiguity, and work in a multicultural environment within a matrixed team
• Proficient with both quantitative and qualitative data collection and analyses, including the ability to prepare and deliver compelling presentations on analyses at varying levels of granularity
• Able to engage with internal and external stakeholders at varying levels of seniority with maturity and sensitivity
• Technical proficiency with Excel and PowerPoint
• Fluent in English
