Job Purpose
Under the guidance of Researcher and Senior Associate Scientist, execute basic characterization data collection, counter checking of data collected, accurate panicle sample collection for image scanning, video and photo documentation using digital tools/digital camera for passport identification, quality control of post-harvest seed processing and ensure seeds are labeled accurately and delivered complete to seed processing. Provide timely, consistent and accurate information to direct supervisor to ensure that research objectives and SOPs are followed. Keep all data/photos/videos collected in the designated storage of data management.
This position will be based at the IRRI Headquarters, Los Baños, Philippines and may only be filled by permanent citizens of the Philippines.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Execute all regular and up to date data collection, encoding/inventory and uploading of files in proper data storage
- Perform specific procedures related to excellence in data collection and post-harvest processing quality controls ensuring compliance to SOPs
- Provide timely, consistent and accurate information to direct supervisor to ensure that research objectives and SOPs are followed
- Support scholars, students, researchers and scientists in field data collection of genebank major nurseries and experiments
- Contribute in the quality assurance of collection of data using digital tools and post-harvest processing of seeds and yield samples
- Perform quality controls on the data of seed characterization of cultivated accessions and purity and quality of seed multiplication
- Prepare materials used in the collection of samples for panicle scanning, post-harvest characterization, grain quality analysis, 100 seed weight and other samples needed in the experiment
- Support in the verification or authentication of seed, panicle and yield samples
- Contribute to the data collection, encoding and documentation of characterized cultivated rice
- Operate equipment, digital tools, gadgets and computer for efficient data collection and storage
Qualifications
- At least 2 years Bachelor’s degree undergraduate level with at least 3 years of relevant work experience; or
- High school graduate with at least 5 years of relevant work experience
Skills Required
Mandatory
- Has basic knowledge of MS Office programs such as Word and Excel or related software
- Has experience in crop research
Preferred
- Has knowledge and experience in rice
- Has experience in extensive data collection on characterization
