For more information about UN Women in Asia and the Pacific, please visit the official website.The portfolio of UN Women’s work on Governance, Peace and Security (GPS) in Asia-Pacific is based on “The Regional Framework Towards Peaceful, Inclusive Societies: Advancing the Women, Peace and Security Agenda and Inclusive Governance in the Asia Pacific Region” (2023-2027) focusing on implementing the Women Peace and Security (WPS) agenda to the specific context of Asia-Pacific region such as development and implementation of WPS national action plans;  conflict prevention and building peace and resilience; prevention of violent extremism; women’s participation and leadership in emerging or non-traditional security issues such as climate, peace and security and cybersecurity and the digital space. The Governance work covers women’s access to justice; gender responsive budgeting; women’s leadership, including women’s political participation.Reporting to the Programme Specialist on Governance, Peace and Security, the Women Peace and Security Intern will be based in Bangkok, Thailand (or home-based if preferred) and provide analytical and programmatic support for the implementation of the Regional Framework.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under direct supervision of UN Women ROAP Programme Specialist on Governance, Peace and Security, the selected candidate will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Support the development of detailed regional WPS workplan by conducting analysis of national needs and entry points across priority countries in the Asia Pacific region.
  • Support the finalization and follow-up of the Performance Monitoring Framework (PMF) by collecting data and information related to baseline, targets and other missing information in the PMF.
  • Contribute to the preparation of concept notes, knowledge products, briefs, presentations and talking points, including for forums, conferences, and events.
  • Assist with project support through consolidating, tracking and monitoring project plans.
  • Assist in preparation of missions, workshops, meetings, and roundtables.
  • Attend and take notes at various meetings.
  • Perform other tasks as necessary.

In undertaking the above duties, the candidate will increase their knowledge of whole-of-society approach to peace and security through leadership and participation of women and youth from diverse backgrounds. In addition, the candidate develops first-hand experience of the work environment of UN Women.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • University studies in one of the following disciplines: International Development Studies, Political Sciences, Law, Human Rights, Gender and Women Studies or other relevant subjects is required;
  • Meet one of the following;
  1. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
  2. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent);
  3. Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation; or
  4. Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program which is part of a degree programme and undertakes the internship as part of the program requirements.

Language:

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English are required;
  • Working knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.

Remuneration:

Interns who are not in receipt of financial support from other sources such as universities or other institutions will receive a stipend from UN Women to partially subsidize their basic living costs for the duration of the internship.Application Information:
