Our team and mission
The ESA Communication Department, part of the Director General’s Services, is responsible for all ESA corporate external and internal communication.
It operates in line with the Director General’s mandate to “reinforce ESA’s corporate identity, visibility and communication so as to reach out to the largest possible audience.”
The Outreach Coordination Office, part of the Production and Management Support Division of the ESA Communication Department, is responsible for coordinating and harmonising public relations and outreach activities organised by the local outreach teams located at ESA establishments.
As such, it is responsible for defining and implementing a policy and plan for ESA’s presence at international and national exhibitions and strategic events in Member States, or other countries as necessary, including events intended for the general public.
It is supported by the Director General’s Advisory Committee on Communication (ACC) in developing, fostering and maintaining relationships with Member State communication entities and, in particular, entities within national space agencies or offices and all relevant European Union institutions.

Field(s) of activity/research for the traineeship
As a member of the Outreach Coordination Office, you will contribute to the definition, development and implementation of the harmonisation and synchronisation of school visits and open days at ESA establishments over the year.
As a Young Graduate Trainee, you will report to the ESAC Outreach Officer/Education Scientist and work in liaison with the Head of the Outreach Coordination Office and the Outreach Coordination Officer. As a key part of your duties, you will be in charge of analysing the existing processes and proposing suitable approaches to standardising activities across ESA establishments.
You will also be involved specifically in the development and implementation of ESA Open Days at ESAC and will support, when needed, the ESAC Outreach Officer/Education Scientist with the organisation and workflow involved in school visits as well as any other outreach activities related to ESAC.
During your traineeship, you will, in particular, liaise closely with the Head of the Outreach Coordination Office, the Outreach Coordination Officer and/or the ESAC Outreach Officer/Education Scientist to revisit and update the Office’s strategy for school visits and open days at ESA establishments.
This includes:
- understanding the process and workflow in each ESA establishment;
- setting up a working group across the establishments to draft a new strategy for a shared approach to school visits and open days at the various ESA establishments (standard features, calendar of open days or school visits, roadmap and workflow, internal and external stakeholders, financing system and budget allocation, etc.);
- ensuring the implementation of the newly defined strategy.

You should have just completed or be in the final year of your master’s degree in international relations or marketing/communications.
Additional requirements
Specific knowledge of one of the following areas would be considered an asset:
- Outreach and Public Relations
- The international and European context
You should have good interpersonal and communication skills and should be able to work in a multi-cultural environment, both independently and as part of a team.
The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.
