For more information about UN Women in Asia and the Pacific, please visit the official website.The portfolio of UN Women’s work on Governance, Peace and Security (GPS) in Asia-Pacific is based on “The Regional Framework Towards Peaceful, Inclusive Societies: Advancing the Women, Peace and Security Agenda and Inclusive Governance in the Asia Pacific Region” (2023-2027) focusing on implementing the Women Peace and Security (WPS) agenda to the specific context of Asia-Pacific region such as development and implementation of WPS national action plans; conflict prevention and building peace and resilience; prevention of violent extremism; women’s participation and leadership in emerging or non-traditional security issues such as climate, peace and security and cybersecurity and the digital space. The Governance work covers women’s access to justice; gender responsive budgeting; women’s leadership, including women’s political participation. Reporting to the Regional Policy Advisor Governance Peace and Security and in close coordination with the ROAP Communications/ External Relations Unit, the Governance Peace and Security Communications Intern will be based in Bangkok, Thailand - or home-based if preferred- and assist in the planning and implementation of the communications and advocacy strategies of the Regional Framework to increase the visibility and awareness of UN Women with partners, the media and the public.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under direct supervision of UN Women ROAP Regional Policy Advisor Governance Peace and Security, and in coordination with ROAP Communications/ External Relations Unit, the selected candidate will be responsible for the following duties:
- Support the planning and design of external communication and outreach/advocacy strategies and plans;
- Monitor and analyze print and social media and provide analysis;
- Contribute to the development and dissemination of creative advocacy materials and knowledge products including by drafting briefing materials, and press releases and coordinating its dissemination through effective channels;
- Support the establishment of media relations and maintain list of relevant media in coordination with the ROAP Communications unit;
- Support the improvement and maintenance of the website/social media contents based on corporate policy;
- Support knowledge building and sharing by identifying and synthesizing best practices and lessons learned directly linked to programme goals and activities;
- Perform other tasks as necessary.
In undertaking the above duties, the candidate will increase their knowledge and skills of planning and implementation of the communications and advocacy strategies to promote gender equality and effectively engage key stakeholders including women and youth from diverse backgrounds. In addition, the candidate develops first-hand experience of the work environment of UN Women.

Required Skills and Experience
- University studies in one of the following disciplines: communications, public relations, journalism or other relevant subjects are required.
- Meet one of the following:
- Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
- Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent);
- Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation; or
- Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program which is part of a degree programme and undertakes the internship as part of the program requirements.
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English are required;
- Working knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.
Interns who are not in receipt of financial support from other sources such as universities or other institutions will receive a stipend from UN Women to partially subsidize their basic living costs for the duration of the internship.Application Information:
