Preparing daily media monitoring of human rights related news, plus coverage of OHCHR public messaging.
Monitoring and analysing current events, public opinion and the press.

Duties and Responsibilities
With the direct supervision of the Spokesperson/Chief of the Media Section, the Individual Contractor may be responsible for the following duties:
•Participates in the development, design and implementation of evaluation of programmes and activities of the Media and Public Positioning Section, coordinating efforts, monitoring and reporting on progress, taking appropriate follow-up action, and analyzing the outcome.
•Prepares daily media monitoring of human rights related news, plus coverage of OHCHR’s public messaging.
•Monitors and analyzes current events, public opinion and press, identifies issues and trends, and advises management on appropriate action/responses.
•Undertakes activities to assess traditional and social media coverage (e.g. press conferences, interviews, press seminars and other special activities) of priority issues and/or major events, including the assessment of a media strategy and action plan, media outreach efforts, press conferences/media coverage, disseminating materials, undertaking appropriate follow-up action and analyzing and reporting on the impact of coverage.
•Produces communications measurement and evaluation outputs (evaluation reports, insights reports, data visualizations, presentations, etc.) to include undertaking research, determining appropriate medium and target audience, preparing production plans, writing drafts, obtaining clearances and finalizing texts, editing copy, and coordinating design approval, printing procedures and distribution.
•Undertakes survey initiatives; designs data collection tools; reviews, analyzes and interprets responses, identifies problems/issues and prepares conclusions.
•Initiates and sustains professional relationships with key constituencies.
•Acts as focal point on specific issues, monitoring and reporting on developments, responding to inquiries, etc.
•Participates in selecting the information transmitted to key constituencies.
A first-level university degree in communications, journalism or related area.
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in public information, journalism, international relations or related area.
Experience with media analysis is required.
Experience with social media analytics is desirable.
Knowledge of audience research methods is desirable.
Experience in programme evaluation is desirable.
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required; and fluency of French is desirable.
Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable.
Additional Information
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be
followed by competency-based interview.
