UNDP Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean has made a strategic shift to the use of ICTs to improve operations, accelerate programming, and inform results-based management. However, this requires additional ICT support and staff training to mobilize resources and prepare staff to leverage the new platforms.
Learning Opportunity
The UNDP Internship Programme offers qualified and eligible candidates at Country Office (CO) level the unique opportunity to acquire direct practical experience in UNDP’s work and the United Nations system under the direct guidance of experienced professionals.
The intern will have the opportunity to contribute and bring a unique perspective to UNDP’s works while gaining experience in working within the MCO by providing support as follows:
- Digital platform services and cloud-based network infrastructure services
- Maintain and support in connectivity monitoring.
- Work with Microsoft SharePoint applications, design intranet pages to share information with the MCO colleagues.
- Support colleagues in administrative assignments and other ad hoc duties.
The intern will work with the Operations and ICT Team to:
- Provide one on one staff training on fixing minor troubleshooting issues.

Provide guided group tutorials on the use of innovative technologies.
- Microsoft For Office 365 applications
- Enterprise Content Management (ECM) via (SharePoint Online)
- Provide ICT support to both the project and Operations teams.
- Test system configuration scenarios
- Assist ICT with the installation and upgrade of new equipment and technologies.
- Update and maintain the ICT inventory repository.
- Provide support with local ICT purchases.
- Provide technical support for face to face and virtual meetings.
OPERATIONAL EFFECTIVENESS
- Ability to perform a variety of repetitive and routine tasks and duties related to ICT
- Ability to organize and complete multiple tasks by establishing priorities
- Ability to review data, identify and adjust discrepancies
- Ability to handle a large volume of work possibly under time constraints
- Knowledge of office software applications relating to Microsoft Office 365 Enterprise Content Management (ECM) via (SharePoint Online), as required
- Ability to operate and maintain a variety of computer systems, mobile phones, tablets, printers, copiers, projectors, audio/video conferencing equipment, and office equipment in order to provide efficient delivery of service.
MANAGING DATA
- Collects and compiles data with speed and accuracy identifying what is relevant and discarding what is not, records it in an accessible manner and maintains data bases.
- Thoroughly and methodically collects, verifies and records data demonstrating attention to detail and identifying and correcting errors on own initiative.
- Transmits file data; creates and generate queries, reports and documents utilizing databases, spreadsheets, communications and other software packages with speed and accuracy.
- Interprets data, draws conclusions and/or identifies patterns which support the work of others.
MANAGING DOCUMENTS, CORRESPONDENCE AND REPORTS
- Creates, edits and presents information (queries, reports, documents) in visually pleasing, clear and presentable formats such as tables, forms, presentations, and reports using advanced word processing and presentation functions and basic database and spreadsheet software, including SharePoint and Excel
- Possess strong written and communication skills (English)
- Ensures correspondence, reports and documents comply with established UN standards
- Ability to produce accurate and well documented records conforming to the required standard.
PLANNING, ORGANIZING AND MULTI-TASKING
- Organises and accurately completes multiple tasks by establishing priorities while taking into consideration special assignments, frequent interruptions, deadlines, available resources and multiple reporting relationships.
- Plans, coordinates and organizes workload while remaining aware of changing priorities and competing deadlines.
- Demonstrates ability to quickly shift from one task to another to meet multiple support needs
- Establishes, builds and maintains effective working relationships with staff and clients to facilitate the provision of support
Candidates must meet the following academic qualifications:
- Be a final year student in a bachelor’s degree programme in Business Applications, Computer Science, Information Technology or similar degree programme, OR
- Have graduated no more than 24 months ago from a bachelor’s degree programme in Business Applications, Computer Science, Information Technology or similar degree.
Professional Requirements/Required Experience:
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme, however, they are expected to have the following skills:
- Knowledge of Microsoft Windows 10 and basic troubleshooting experience
- Knowledge of computer hardware (chipsets, memory requirements, etc)
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Hands on experience with either Google Android or Apple iOS devices
- Experience with basic network management is an asset.
- Ability to work well independently and collaboratively.
Language:
- Written and spoken proficiency in English is a prerequisite.

The incumbent will be paid a monthly stipend based on the Barbados duty station rates published yearly by the OHR Policy and Compensation Unit. The stipend will be paid on a monthly basis and part-time internship arrangements are prorated accordingly.

- letter from his/her university confirming current enrolment and graduation date
- letter of recommendation from a professor
- copy of his/her most recent school transcript
- copy of passport or National Identification card

- Medical Certificate of Good Health
- Proof of medical insurance.
