A roster of suitable candidates may be established for this post as a result of this selection process for fixed-term appointments against both established posts and positions funded by general temporary assistance (GTA).
Important:
Recruitment for this post in the General Service category is done on a local basis. As a result, staff are generally recruited from the area in which the particular office is located but could be of any nationality. Candidates applying to a post in the General Services category shall meet the relevant employment and immigration requirements in the country of the duty station, including fulfilling residence and work permit conditions.
Applicants will be responsible for any expenses incurred in relation to: visa, travel to and from, and relocation to and from the duty station, in the event of an employment offer.
A staff member in the General Service category who has been locally recruited shall not be eligible for the entitlements and/or benefits exclusively applicable to internationally recruited staff.
Organisational Context
The two Deputy Prosecutors, under the delegated authority of the Prosecutor, will manage the two Prosecution Pillars. The Deputy Prosecutors will be responsible for an equal division of Situations and cases based on a Unified Team concept. The Trial Support Assistant will serve within one of the Unified Teams.
The Deputy Prosecutors oversee preliminary examinations, investigations, prosecutions, and when applicable, appeals proceedings; providing strategic advice and guidance to the Prosecutor on each Situation and case under their responsibility. This will include recommendations on prioritisation and effective use of resources
Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting directly to a Head of a Unified Team, the incumbent performs the following tasks:
- Support the Case Manager in maintaining a clear and concise calendar of filings, hearings and (pre) Trial Chamber decisions and orders;
- Assist the Case Manager and Senior Trial Lawyers in the collation and organization of evidence to be presented in Court, including proof-reading submissions, checking references/footnotes, applying redactions and formatting filings in accordance with the ICC style guide;
- Assist in managing and implementing the process of disclosure of evidence to the defence, including ensuring proper organization and registration of evidence, proper formatting of evidence for effective presentation in Court, monitoring progress within databases and ensuring any necessary corrections and/or follow up actions;
- Creating, updating and maintaining spreadsheets containing witness information, filing lists etc., redacting documents and producing related reports and summaries as requested by the Trial Lawyers;
- Provide administrative support on a range of duties to the designated Unified Team, such as but not limited to logistical support of new staff, guidance and coordinating access to relevant Court systems, printing and preparation of witness binders etc.;
- Provide in-Court support to the team by following proceedings online and taking necessary follow up action;
- Perform any other duties as required
Essential Qualifications
Education:
Diploma of secondary education.
Experience:
A minimum of six (6) years of administrative work experience, preferably in litigation support, in a law enforcement environment or other related field is required. An advanced or first-level university degree may be considered as a substitute for two years' working experience only to determine eligibility.Paralegal knowledge and/or experience and experience in relevant areas in an international environment would be considered a strong asset.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Strong IT skills in the use of litigation tools (e.g. Ringtail,Relativity,Casemap) and the ability to work with databases and spreadsheets;
- A good understanding of evidence registration processes; Excellent organizational and planning skills;
- Good analytical skills, including accuracy and attention to detail; Ability to keep strict standards of confidentiality and security;
- Ability to work on a litigation team, preferably with members from different criminal justice systems and cultural backgrounds;
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Personal and professional integrity.
Knowledge of languages:
Proficiency in one of the working languages of the Court, English or French, is required. Working knowledge of the other would be considered a strong asset. Knowledge of another official language of the Court (Arabic, Chinese, Russian and Spanish) is considered an asset.
