Contract Duration

Interns are required to work full time for a period between three and six months (to be agreed to prior to commencement). Internship placements shall not be extended beyond six months.

 

The Opportunity

The International Criminal Court (ICC) investigates and, where warranted, tries individual charges with the gravest crimes of concerns to the international community: genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity and crime of aggression. The Court is participating in the global fight to end impunity, and through the international criminal justice, the Court aims to hold those responsible accountable for their crimes and to help prevent the crimes from happening again. Organisational Context

 

The Office of the Prosecutor investigates and prosecutes genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes committed by nationals of a State Party or on the territory of a State Party on or after 1 July 2002, the date of entry into force of the Rome Statute. It has two Prosecution Pillars, incorporating investigators, trial lawyers and analysts, and a Division of Integrated Services centralizing the spezialized support functions that provide cross-cutting support to the Office.

The Information, Knowledge and Evidence Management Section (IKEMS) of the Office of the Prosecutor, headed by an Information Management Coordinator reporting to the Director of Integrated Services, combines the OTP’s information, knowledge and evidence operations into one consolidated section. IKEMS aims to maintain a coordinated, flexible and operationally responsive IKEM support capacity throught the OTP, in order to support the full spectrum of OTP information and evidence operations.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Provide support in the design, development and plan of software and features using the SaaS platform Mendix or Azure Data Analytics (PowerBI, Data Factory), prioritized in the OTP Modernisation Program; and/or
  • Contribute to an improvement project related to management of information or knowledge in the OTP; and/or
  • Contribute to the assessment of systems in use; and/or
  • Carry out research into technological developments and best practices in the investigative and legal environments (possible topics include, but are not limited to: Cloud, Data Analytics, Machine Learning / AI).

 

 

Essential Qualifications

 

Education:

All Candidates must have a degree or be in the final stages of their studies at a recognised university, either at bachelor or higher levels. The degree should be related to one of the following or similar areas: information or data management,  technology, computing, data science or business analytics. Candidates are expected to have a very good record of academic performance.

 

Experience:

Internship placements focus on candidates in the early stages of their professional careers therefore; practical experience is not an essential prerequisite for selection. However, programming or coding experience will be considered an asset.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

  • Able to adapt to multicultural and multilingual working environments.
  • Possesses goodteamwork skills (listens, consults and communicates proactively).
  • High standard of computer skills.

 

Knowledge of Languages:

Proficiency in English is required. Knowledge of another official language of the Court (French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian and Spanish) or of a Situation language is an asset.

Remuneration

Please note that the ICC is not able to provide all participants in the Internship and Visiting Professional Programme with remuneration, nor is it possible to provide reimbursement for expenses incurred during the internship or visiting professional placement.

 

Applicants should therefore be able to support themselves for the duration of their internship or placement. 

 

Limited funding may, however, be available through the ICC’s Trust Fund for the Development of Interns and Visiting Professionals, which receives donations from States Parties and other donors to fund nationals of States Parties from developing regions. These donations are equally divided between the four Organs of the Court.

 

If funding is available, the Human Resources Section shall assess a candidate’s eligibility in accordance with the terms of reference of the Trust Fund as agreed by the donors. 

 

In order to be eligible, the applicant must, among other criteria, be a national from a country that is a State Party to the Rome Statue and appears on the United Nations Statistics Division’s list of developing regions.

Candidates eligible for funding shall receive detailed information and further instructions after the selection process is finalized. Stipends will always be agreed at the time of offering the internship. No funding will be provided at a later stage.
