The Team

Hundreds of Afghan families who evacuated from Afghanistan arrived to their new home in Minnesota. Alongside Minnesota neighbors, Alight has welcomed our new community in a dignified and human centered way.

You will join the Welcome Home team consisting of an Afghan Program Lead, Afghan Community Guides, and Logistics Officer as the core team. Behind you, you’ll be supported by the Alight U.S. team providing back-office support to achieve project goals.

The Role

First and foremost, you are driven by a desire to support and accompany refugees in their journey. As the Interpreter. Afghan Program you will work on projects that seek to engage and add value to the Afghan Community. You will be a bridge builder and advocate for developing human centered and desirable experiences. You set the tone for our customers, volunteers, and partners. You will help make Alight’s values felt and experienced.

Based in Minneapolis, you will be guided by and receive support from the Welcome Home team.

You are relentless in your desire to create an atmosphere where every shopper receives a unique and personalized experience and feels empowered and dignified.

Under the guidance and direction of the Afghan Program Lead and Welcome Home team, the Afghan Interpreter will:

Afghan Interpreter Responsibilities:

- Attend weekly sewing socials on Wednesdays from 9:30 am – 1:30 pm

- Interpret for the instructor during the sewing class

- Interpret for onsite mental health professionals

- Interpret for Afghan community, Alight staff and volunteers

- Always maintain trust and confidentiality

- Assist in setting up sewing social

- Assist in clean up and disassembly of classes each week

- Attend and interpret at community events related to the project as needed

- Welcome students and volunteers, creating a unique and joyful experience for all involved

- Ensure the quality of all services related to the sewing social meets the required standards and Alight brand promise

Must have reliable transportation and be local to the Twin Cities Metro.

Qualifications

We’re also looking for the following competencies:

 Language requirement: Dari and/or Pashto and English

 Strong time management skills, arriving to programming early and staying in close communication with the team

 Human-centered, empathetic, and a good listener

 Driven and motivated by Alight’s mission and values

 Strong communication skills – written and verbal

 Must be willing to work on-site and travel between program sites.

 Reliable transportation and ability to drive to project sites

*Proof of Covid vaccination is required for this position
