Mission and objectives

UNDP is the lead development agency of the United Nations, working to support countries’ work towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs. UNDP has more than 50 years of experience leading the UN’s development work, providing knowledge, practical expertise, and a legacy of trust. UNDP works in nearly 170 countries and territories, helping to eradicate poverty, and to do that in a way which also reduces inequality and exclusion, and avoids wrecking the ecosystems on which life depends.

Context

UNDP set out on an ambitious mission in the Strategic Plan 2022-2025 to significantly advance the future of development and the achievement of the 2030 Agenda. UNDP is supporting countries towards three directions of change: • Structural transformation: including green, inclusive and digital transitions. • Leaving no-one behind: a rights-based approach centered on empowerment, inclusion, equity, human agency and human development. • Building resilience: strengthening countries and institutions to prevent, mitigate and respond to crisis, conflict, natural disasters, climate and social and economic shocks. UNDP’s new Strategic Plan aims to make UNDP more agile and anticipatory, including by investing in data and analytics, early warning and horizon scanning, in line with UNDP’s Data Strategy As the knowledge frontier organization for sustainable development in the UN Development System, UNDP serves as the integrator for collective action to realize the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). UNDP’s policy work carried out at HQ, Regional and Country Office levels, forms a contiguous spectrum of deep local knowledge to cutting-edge global perspectives and advocacy. In this context, UNDP invests in the Global Policy Network (GPN), a network of field-based and global technical expertise across a wide range of knowledge domains and in support of the signature solutions and organizational capabilities envisioned in the Strategic Plan. Within the GPN, the Crisis Bureau guides UNDP’s corporate crisis-related strategies and vision for crisis prevention, response, and recovery. The Crisis Bureau aims to ensure that UNDP is well-positioned to anticipate crises and shocks, and address multidimensional crisis risks in a comprehensive way. To that end the Crisis Bureau has developed the Crisis Risk Dashboard (CRD), a platform that facilitates integrated risk analysis by drawing from diverse quantitative and qualitative data. Increasingly, these CRDs are being co-designed by UNDP in partnership with different UN agencies, aiming to serve crisis-related data and analysis needs of regional and country-based teams. A regional CRD for Asia-Pacific is currently being prototyped, alongside several country-based CRDs for the region. Support the development of the Crisis Risk Dashboard (CRD) tool for the Asia Pacific region, in close collaboration with UNDP Country Offices and Regional Hubs, as well as UN RC Offices when relevant. • Provide support to relevant UN/UNDP teams in the region in the development of new or existing country- and region-specific CRDs. • Support regional and country offices with risk model development, indicator identifica-tion, data mapping and data visualisation • Ensure regular technical support and solutions to the regional CRD and country specific CRDs.

Task description
