Introduction 

The Green Climate Fund (“GCF”) is the world’s largest climate fund. It is mandated to make a significant and ambitious contribution to  global efforts in attaining the goals set by the international community to combat climate change. 
As an operating entity of the financial mechanism of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), GCF aims to promote the paradigm shift towards low-emission, climate-resilient development pathways and to support developing countries in countering and responding to climate change.  GCF is governed by a Board composed of an equal representation of developed and developing countries. The Fund, operated by an independent Secretariat and headed by an Executive Director, is based in Incheon, Republic of Korea. 
The Fund seeks to recruit a Communications Consultant to carry out tasks, duties, and responsibilities, deliver on set objectives, and provide support to the hiring unit as detailed below. The Consultant will be based at GCF headquarters in Korea. The assignment is for an initial 180 days over a 9-month period starting from April 2023.

Role:
GCF is seeking to recruit a Communications Consultant to join the Communications Unit of its Division of External Affairs at its headquarters for a 9-month period.  Reporting to the Head of Communications, the Consultant will be responsible for supporting the implementation of GCF’s communication strategy for its second replenishment (GCF-2) and to help raise and shape the Fund’s profile. The Consultant will ensure that GCF’s key messages, stories, results, and communication products are produced and disseminated to target audiences in consistent, creative, and timely ways.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the overall guidance of the Head of Communications, the Consultant will:

1. Manage communication projects that may include publications, campaigns, photo-video field visits, and events that will raise GCF’s profile and enhance its brand during the replenishment period;
2. In collaboration with the Communications Team, write, edit and review content for various audiences and traditional and digital communication channels, ensuring that all communication products are on brand and adhere to GCF standards;
3. Support executive communications by drafting remarks, messaging briefs and communication guidance for the Senior Management Team;
4. Support the overall objectives of the Communications Team, with a particular focus on projects related to GCF-2.

 

Required Experience and Qualifications:

•    Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, international relations, finance, economics, sustainable development, environmental science, or a related field with at least nine (9) years of relevant international professional experience in communications-related work; or Master’s degree and at least seven (7) years of relevant international professional experience in communications-related work.
•  Communications-related work with an international organization highly desired; or similar work in media, PR, government, private sector or non-profit organization.
•    Proven experience in managing projects, campaigns, and/or events.
•    Proven experience in content creation.
•    Excellent written and editorial skills in English (native or fluent).
•    Good political judgement and understanding of multilateral processes and climate finance.
•    Able to work independently and efficiently with limited guidance in a deadline-driven multicultural environment.
•    Strong communication skills, teamwork, collaboration, and client relationship skills.
•    Knowledge of another UN language an advantage.
