  • About Loop

Loop is an independent voice for people receiving aid.

All over the world millions of people receive aid from charities, governments and NGOs. Yet those people rarely have the opportunity to give feedback about that aid and whether it is effective and truly beneficial for them.

In 2020, the Loop platform was founded to give voice to unheard people, who are amongst the poorest and most marginalised in the world. Wherever they are, from the remotest rural communities to urban areas in crisis, anyone receiving aid can use Loop to tell their story and shape the services being provided.

Loop uses existing phone and computer technology to allow people receiving aid to give feedback; safely, easily, and without having to be asked.

The organisations providing aid also benefit from Loop, with the ability to access feedback data on an ongoing basis, so they can constantly improve what they do.

People can use Loop online or on their phone using SMS. Loop is accessible in local languages, and it doesn’t even depend on literacy: users can speak their stories using any phone.

Loop also provides a safe channel for the reporting of complaints about exploitation, fraud and abuse.

Importantly, Loop is completely independent and not managed by any other aid organisation or NGO.

Loop’s mission is to be a truly global platform for people to feedback on humanitarian and development services in their communities.

In 2021 Loop went live in the Philippines and Zambia, and has since rolled out to Somalia, Indonesia, Poland and Ukraine, with the ambition to have the platform available in at least 50 countries with over 100 million visits per year by 2030.

    What’s Different About Us?

At Loop, we are all about feedback. We have high ambitions and are continually striving to get there, learning from all involved as we go.  We are a new charity,  built on strong principles of Decentralised, Open and Transparent systems. We are exploring how to bring the changes we want to help create in the wider world into our charity.  We want to walk the talk, live our values and create not just great change, but a healthy working environment and flexible working that can either be part- or full-time, working remotely from home or at our desk in The Community Hub in the Hague.

The expansion of our operations has generated an opportunity for a full- or part-time fundraising lead to help us with funding research, applications and follow-ups.

If you want to be part of a globally dispersed team, thrive on change and learning and believe in your core that we can do more if we listen and learn from others, then we would love to hear from you.

We don't have massive job security, fancy titles or large pay cheques but we do value every team member equally, you can bring your whole self to work and we will strive to provide an enabling work environment so you can feel safe, supported and empowered. The way we work doesn’t suit everyone. But if you’re an enthusiastic person who’s passionate about our mission, and keen for more freedom and autonomy, then we could be a perfect match.  We love to see applications from people with transferable skills, who  are looking for opportunities to contribute and  grow and make a real difference.

    Skillset Guidance and Development framework

Our business model is to match skills to projects.  This means staff get the opportunity to work on different projects with different challenges which may occur outside of the substantive role. This will be guided by a skills development framework that  works alongside our colleagues’ existing skills , the needs of the business and personal career development.

    • We live by our principles:

    • We walk the talk. In all of our actions we are open and accountable, and we expect the same of others.

    Work Ethic

A great work ethic is critical to success at Loop. To us, a great work ethic includes both the dedication to achieve outcomes with excellent quality and timeliness as well as excellent time management, with particular focus on self-care.

No-one works at their best when they are burned out, tired or stressed, and you can’t do a great job if you’re not committed to the work, understanding the art of walking the fine line between keeping a clear and calm mind and working hard to succeed, going above and beyond and helping out your colleagues.

    Communication & Intercultural Fluency

As we work in such an international context at Loop, it is vitally important that you are able to converse fluently with people from different cultures and backgrounds. To always assume the best, to be interested in new ideas, different ways of explaining, understanding and experiencing things and respecting differences in opinions. Providing an environment where people feel comfortable to share what they really think and feel in a safe empowering way and then finding ways to move to a collective understanding and decisions/ approach.

Excellent communication skills are built on a foundation of active listening: good listening skills will help you learn and respond effectively to the situations you are being presented with, adjusting your tone and style according to your audience to ensure you build a safe welcoming environment for everyone to contribute and be their best.

    Positive Attitude, Flexibility, Adaptability

In order to be successful in any project, you’ll need a can-do attitude. In order to produce excellent outcomes, projects need to adapt as they move forward, aligning with new data and information that comes up. Team members need to be flexible on changing previous plans and expectations to keep the project moving in a direction that will bring results.

Loop is founded on the idea that no one person has all of the answers and that this will change any way, so we need to keep listening, learning, feeding back and adjusting. Change is permanent and should be embraced.

    Initiative and Problem Solving

As things evolve so much and with everything about Loop being new, we need people who can think strategically, see problems before they happen, be innovative to find solutions and approaches to addressing the potential issues and use their initiative to make it happen. Initiative might be reaching out to other people, recognising who has expertise in what areas, listening to your gut instinct, discussing it with the appropriate people and identifying and proposing a solution to the cause of the issue and not just the symptoms.

You’re not going to have your manager hold your hand throughout your time at the charity; you will need to self manage. The upside is independence, ownership and opportunity to drive things forward.  The downside is a quick exit if you do not deliver on your areas of responsibility, identify and deliver on new opportunities that you identify and contribute as part of a team to other initiatives to deliver the vision and mission of Loop.
