Contract Duration

Visiting Professionals are required to work full time for a period between three and six months (to be agreed to prior to commencement). Visiting Professional placements shall not be extended beyond six months.

The Opportunity

The International Criminal Court (ICC) investigates and, where warranted, tries individual charges with the gravest crimes of concerns to the international community: genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity and crime of aggression. The Court is participating in the global fight to end impunity, and through the international criminal justice, the Court aims to hold those responsible accountable for their crimes and to help prevent the crimes from happening again. Organisational Context 


Under the direct supervision of the Director of the Judicial Services, the Information Management Services Section (IMSS) implements and maintains information management (IM) systems and services necessary for the daily functioning of court activities. Within IMSS, The Information Management Unit (IMU) provides governance, guidance and systems to improve the processes which capture, manage and archive Court information both digital and paper to support activities.  IMU’s mandate extends to systems and support to long term maintenance of archives and legacy information to ensure that Court judicial and administrative information is preserved.


The Unit also manages the operations of the Library which provides daily resources and services to support legal research, case law and preparation for the Office of the Prosecutor (OTP), Chambers and Registry from investigations through the phases of pre-trial to appeals. This opportunity is designed for a visiting professional to work with experienced information professionals within the Information Management Unit.



Duties and Responsibilities

The Visiting Professional (VP) will assist in managing sites in the Court’s collaboration environment (SharePoint) with the specific goal to help improve collaboration, efficiency and increase productivity. This work will include close interaction with the staff from the Information Management Unit, focal points, and business users.

The VP will also support a variety of projects and initiatives centred on management of information and appraisal of business records in the Court’s records and document management system.
 

Specifically, his/her responsibilities will include:

  • Assist in the implementation of classification and records management;
  • Assist in the implementation of records retention and disposal;
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of metadata for common document types;
  • Support in bulk processing of records;
  • Assist in the resolution of support issues related to information management;
  • Assist in preparation of IM training user guides and communication packs;
  • Assist in updating contents  in SharePoint and Drupal;
  • Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications 

Education: 

All Candidates must have a degree in information management, information science, records management, archives, or related field from a recognized university. Candidates are expected to have a very good record of academic performance.  

Experience: 

Visiting professional placements focus on candidates who have extensive experience in their professional careers in relevant fields of work. ; Candidates must have at least (3) three years of professional experience to qualify for the visiting professional placement.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Strong organisational and planning skills;
  • Demonstrable coordination and communication skills;
  • Demonstrable knowledge on information management;
  • Able to adapt to multicultural and multilingual working environments;
  • Possesses strong teamwork skills (listens, consults and communicates proactively);
  • Has acquired a good standard of computer skills (including but not limited to IM tools such as SharePoint, Microfocus Records Manager or Open Text). 

Knowledge of Languages: 

Proficiency in one of the working languages of the Court, French or English, is required. Working knowledge of the other is desirable. Knowledge of another official language of the Court (Arabic, Chinese, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.]

Remuneration

Please note that internship and visiting professional placements at the ICC are unfunded. The ICC is not able to provide participants in the Internship and Visiting Professional Programme with any remuneration, nor is it possible to provide reimbursement for expenses incurred prior, during or after the internship or visiting professional placement.

Applicants must therefore be able to support themselves for the entire duration of their internship or visiting professional placement.

Limited funding may, however, be available through the ICC’s Trust Fund for the Development of Interns and Visiting Professionals, which receives donations from States Parties and other donors.

If funding is available, the Human Resources Section will advertise a funded vacancy announcement in accordance with the terms of reference of the Trust Fund as agreed by the donors.

In order to be eligible for a funded placement, if advertised, the applicant must, among other criteria, be a national from a country that is a State Party to the Rome Statue and appears on the United Nations Statistics Division’s list of developing regions.
