Org. Setting and Reporting

The UN Office of Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) - Space Applications Section (SAS) internship is for a total of three (3) months with an opportunity for extension up to a total of six (6) months, pending on the needs of the office and the availability of the intern. The envisaged start date is in April/May/June 2023. The internships is fully remote.

Our innovative team is looking for an intern who is interested in disability inclusion in space.

The internship is remote, UNPAID and full-time.

Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

Responsibilities

Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background; the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period. Duties may include, but are not limited to:
1. Support the Space for Persons with Disabilities project by assisting in the research on disability inclusive practices and space technologies and spin-offs benefiting persons with disabilities.
2. Assist in interviewing and drafting articles, designing marketing materials and developing social media content to increase awareness and understanding of accessibility and inclusion in space.
3. Contribute suggestions and ideas for activities that will add value to the Space for Persons with Disabilities project.
4. Perform other tasks as necessary

Education

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:

• Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or (c) recently have graduated with a university degree (as defined above);
(OFFICIAL PROOF FROM THE UNIVERSITY IN SUPPORT OF ONE OF THE ABOVE OPTIONS HAS TO BE ATTACHED TO THE INSPIRA APPLICATION)

• Be computer literate in standard software applications; proficiency in preparing spreadsheets; knowledge of graphic design is desirable;

• Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and

• Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience

No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

First-hand experience with the topic of disability inclusion is desirable.

Motivation for applying to the Space for Persons with Disabilities Project is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. Fluency in English, i.e. oral and written proficiency is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
