Organizational Context
The Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) is a ministry of the Society of Jesus, incorporated as an international non-governmental organisation with a mission to accompany, serve, and advocate for the rights of refugees and forcibly displaced people. The organisation was founded in November 1980 and now has a presence in over 56 countries. JRS undertakes services at national and regional levels with the support and guidance of an international office (IO) in Rome. The style of JRS’s service is human and spiritual, working in situations of greatest need, seeking the long-term well-being of refugees and displaced people while not neglecting their immediate or urgent needs.
The main services provided are in the field of education, reconciliation, livelihood activities and psychosocial support. Currently, almost 1 million individuals are direct beneficiaries of JRS projects.

Operational Context

The IT Officer will support staff and perform various functions, including providing technical assistance and support related to systems infrastructure, hardware, software to staff at the International Office as well as in the field offices.

Main responsibilities of the position

Under the direct supervision of the Head of IT Unit, the IT Officer will perform the following duties: 

General Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with staff to troubleshoot technical issues (hardware and software) including installation, upgrades, and daily usage
  • Stay up to date on new features and capabilities, and plan and execute upgrades and migrations as needed
  • Provide training to users on how to use Office 365 (Outlook, OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams, etc.) effectively on various devices (PC, laptop, mobile, etc.)
  • Develop how-to-guides, video tutorials, etc. editing, and revising the same with updated information when necessary
  • Assist in the management of the Microsoft Azure Platform, including Active Directory, related servers, networks, and services
  • Assist in the management of Microsoft 365 security and licenses in accordance with company policies
  • Review, plan and assist in the implementation of proper Internet usage policies for JRS Global
  • Ensure that employees are following computer use policies, information security and privacy
  • Write and maintain documentation for procedures, processes, and configurations
  • Research, support and make recommendations on the purchase of software, hardware and other IT policies that yield competitive advantage

Infrastructure Services

  • Implement and ensure systems backups, archiving, and disaster recovery processes
  • Maintain security by monitoring systems and processes for potential vulnerabilities, identifying risks, and taking action to mitigate them
  • Configure and manage security settings and compliance features to protect data and ensure regulatory compliance
  • Resolve technical problems with Local Area Networks (LAN), Wide Area Networks (WAN), and other systems to resolve network connectivity issues

Qualification and Competencies

  • University degree specialized for the role if applicable or related discipline and a minimum of (3) years of work experience in a similar role OR High School Diploma and at least five (5) years of professional experience
  • Working knowledge of office automation and tech products.
    Working knowledge of C#, HTML, CSS, ASP.NET CORE, MVC, PHP, SQL
  • Working knowledge of networks to address connectivity and performance issues (WAN/LAN, Network Protocols, TCP/IP)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Azure, Active Directory and Microsoft 365 Administration
  • Excellent English, both verbal and written
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multi-cultural, international, professional environment
  • Ability to follow complex and unique processes and adapt to change rapidly
  • Analytical thought needed to resolve issues in a variety of complex situations
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues
  • Manage several issues and follow-ups simultaneously in fast-paced and deadline-driven environment

Desirable:

  • Working knowledge or Microsoft Certifications (Azure, 365, Powershell, Development and SQL Server)
  • Working knowledge of Italian, French, Spanish and/or other languages
  • Field experience and previous working experience with faith-based organisations is an asset
  • Understanding of and commitment to humanitarian relief work and international humanitarian standards

Terms and Conditions 

Please note that this position is only open to candidates who possess EU citizenship or other legal authorization to work in the European Union.
Successful candidates will be offered a regular contract under Italian law.
