Terms of Reference

The Contractor will be part of the Media and Communications Unit based in the Brussels office of UNHCR’s Representation for EU Affairs, Belgium, Ireland, Luxembourg and the Netherlands (REUA) for two months. The Unit works on communications and media activities in support of UNHCR’s work on EU, Belgian and Luxembourg matters.

REUA is a Multi Country Office (MCO). REUA works with a range of stakeholders including from the European Union (EU) Institutions and agencies in those countries falling under the MCO structure. We also work hand in hand with UNHCR headquarters, regional bureaux and country offices.
Under the direct supervision of the Snr Communications Officer, the contractor will be responsible for:
- Identifying a minimum of 4 refugee stories in Belgium (drawing on an existing list), working within the Media & Communications Unit and with Protection, Community Based Protection and PSP colleagues
- Compiling interview questions for podcast interviews and eventual web-stories of the (minimum) 4 identified refugees
- Drafting and finalizing (minimum) 4 related web-stories (in English) within the timeframe of the contract
- Drafting supporting social media copy to facilitate the dissemination of the (minimum) 4 related web-stories and/or podcasts (in English)
- Identifying possible dates for release of the stories and/or podcasts (these dates may fall outside of the scope of the contract)
- Performing other related duties as required.
Qualification and experience required:
- Excellent drafting skills; team player; excellent command of English; knowledge of French at working level (B1-B2) wider experience of social and digital media.
- Minimum 1 year of previous job experience relevant to the function with a high school diploma, none required with a Bachelor or Master degree.

Candidates who are not nationals of Belgium must hold a valid residence/work permit in Belgium at the time of application.
