Mission and objectives
UNOPS is an operational arm of the United Nations, supporting the successful implementation of its partners’ peacebuilding, humanitarian and development projects around the world. Our mission is to help people build better lives and countries achieve sustainable development. UNOPS areas of expertise cover infrastructure, procurement, project management, financial management and human resources. UNOPS Sri Lanka is part of the Sri Lanka Multi Country Office in the Asia Region. The Office provides technical, operational and administrative support to multiple countries in the Asia Region, including India, Pakistan and Bangladesh and Nepal to enable these country offices to deliver their project more efficiently and effectively. As part of this support, the UNOPS Office in Sri Lanka also provides programmatic support in the areas of project management, communications, reporting and partnership development. In Sri Lanka, UNOPS operates within the overall framework of the UN Sustainable Development Framework (UNSDF) and is working with UN Agencies to better support the Government of Sri Lanka within the focus areas of the UNSDF. UNOPS Sri Lanka currently manages infrastructure projects in health, solid waste management and supports public institutions governance.
Context
UNOPS has supported Sri Lanka’s development since 1998, expanding operations in 2005 to support the post-tsunami response and reconstruction process. Within the organisation’s mandate in project management, infrastructure and procurement, UNOPS Sri Lanka implements customized socio-economic development projects that benefit vulnerable people and develop national capacities. Achievements in Sri Lanka include development of sustainable and climate resilient infrastructure, procurement services & capacity building and project management in education, fisheries, roads, health, water supply systems; flood control and sanitation and integrated solid waste management sectors. UNOPS works closely with Government counterparts and communities to ensure increased ownership, sustainability and accountability of projects. The UN Volunteer will work under the guidance and supervision of the Partnerships Development Manager and report to the same. H/she will be a member of the partnership development team to support programme development activities including project and partnership development, communication and reporting as required.
Task description
Under the overall guidance and direct supervision of the Partnerships Development Manager, and in close coordination with the Regional Office, Partnerships Group and the Communications Group, Project Development Assistant, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for supporting the implementation of the partnership and programme development plan for UNOPS Sri Lanka, with the ultimate aim of enabling a sustainable portfolio growth, efficiency and quality of its delivery as well as enhancement of UNOPS visibility in project services in Sri Lanka. Under the supervision of Partnerships Development Manager, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: ● Support the Partnerships Unit in researching and identifying new funding opportunities and mapping them in line with UNOPS Partnerships Strategy. ● Aid in the coordination and collaboration of daily activities with relevant Partnerships personnel at the national, regional and HQ level; this will include, content gathering for donor/partner updates and meetings, fact files and sheets, social media and communications; updating AR and SAMCO reports, assist in organizing, etc ● Participate in the organization of events, field visits or round tables targeting UNOPS partners. ● Contribute to the development of an annual partnerships and engagement plan and participate in its implementation. ● Support in developing (English) various information and visibility materials on UNOPS mandate and activities (factsheets, project updates, background papers for meetings, etc). ● Participate in developing a bank of photos and videos generated by UNOPS activities. ● Any other relevant tasks as requested by supervisor
