Role Overview
The Business Intelligence Specialist’s role is critical for Medair’s data driven reporting. As a key member of the Digital Transformation Team, role includes contributing to the strategic design of the data architecture of the organisation, gathering requirements, designing and rolling out BI solutions to end users. It also entails capacity building of users to create their own reports. The Business Intelligence Specialist is also responsible for ensuring high levels of BI availability through support and in-depth testing.
Project Overview
Medair’s Global Support Office (GSO) provides operational guidance for country programmes, along with both technical and compassionate support for our relief workers. Within our headquarters and affiliate offices, we are also responsible for promoting the work of Medair to the world, to raise and manage the funds needed to run our life-saving and sustaining programmes, and to recruit international and HQ staff.
Global ITS provides Medair with centralised governance, strategy, direction, innovation and support in the use of the information technologies that amplify the people to people strategy. Global ITS provides a centralised approach to ensure cost efficiency and integration, including country programs in the strategic design of systems, and delivers services locally where practical to ensure that the day-to-day needs of our GSO and country program colleagues are met.
The BI function will support Medair’s Global Support Office (GSO) and country programs to guarantee that the collected data is available and can be analysed in order to reduce paper work and manual effort, while increasing response time, and improving delivery speed.

Key Activity Areas
Technical BI Development
- Understand, design and implement visually appealing reports and dashboards (Qlik, Unit 4, Power BI).
- Design publish comprehensive and understandable business performance indicator dashboards for end users.
- Create tools to analyze and find trends from various data coming from Medair’s systems and field locations.
- Create effective queries for improved performance and outcomes.
- Ensure that end-users will only have access to their own data.
- Contribute to data-driven decision-making.
Data Engineering
- Design relevant data-models in order to report from multiple systems and data sources.
- Ensure coherence in data models and information flow between different systems.
- Create scripts or batches to consolidate diverse data sources in a coherent manner.
- Create and maintain optimal data pipeline architecture.
- Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements.
- Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) of data from a wide variety of data sources using Boomi technology.
- Collaborate with the Snr Data Engineer to build the data structure on Snowflake Warehouse for reporting.
- Maintain data architecture for Business Intelligence so it can scale with evolution of server architecture.
Report Design and Support
- Coordinate with requestors for the detailed and correct report requirements.
- Coordinate with the Snr Data Engineer to ensure that the required data for reporting is available.
- Optimise the data flow and collection for cross functional teams.
- Work with end users to ensure ease of use, intuitiveness and understanding of reports / dashboard created.
- Collaborate in the implementation of new modules / applications by:
- Providing guidance
- Advising end-users and collaborate vendors
- Provide end-users with second level support for reports.
- Responsible for ensuring the maintenance of the reporting servers.
Innovation/changes
- As an ‘agent for change’ find new and better ways to provide Medair users with the reports and tools they need to drive decision making.

Qualifications
- Degree in Software Engineering, Information Systems or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- Excellent working knowledge of the English language (speaking and writing).
Relief & Recovery Orientation Course (ROC)
What is the ROC and why is it required?
Experience
- 4+ years’ experience in Business Intelligence reporting design or software development
- Experience of training technical and non-technical staff in the use of BI software applications.
- Experience of gathering, interpreting and implementing client requirements.
- Report/dashboard development skills in common BI software programmes, QlikView, QlikSense, Jet Reporting, BI Cube, Tableau, Power BI.
- Advanced working SQL knowledge (preferably in Snowflake) and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL).
- Experience using an integration tool (preferably Boomi).
- Knowledge in ERP systems is a plus Dynamic D365, Unit4 ERPx, Salesforce, etc
- Extensive experience of developing, debugging and testing SQL scripts
- Good understanding of software design principles and data models
