Job Overview:  The Supporting Afghan Financial Empowerment Project (SAFE) is a nationwide initiative to empower Afghan families in developing financial stability and economic security in the United States, through financial education, coaching, and access to financial products. More information about safe can be found at www.safeirc.org.  Community Outreach assistants will play a key role in ensuring Afghan community members are informed on the SAFE project and are assisted in accessing services through the program.  They will work in their local communities to provide outreach, conduct information sessions, and interpret/translate materials.


Major Responsibilities:

  • Conduct outreach to local Afghan community groups using SAFE project and financial education materials
  • Facilitate in-language remote and in person information sessions related to SAFE project
  • Help develop and deliver innovative ideas for engaging community members (i.e., Facebook Live events, WhatsApp groups, etc.)
  • Develop, review, edit and provide material feedback on produced content and other materials relating to outreach and education materials.
  • Provide related interpretation and translation services
  • Assist the IRC to map local, state or regional resources and partnerships that provide social service supports to Afghan populations
  • Other duties as assigned


Job Requirements:

Work Experience:

  • At least one year of experience working with diverse populations, including English language learners
  • At least one year of experience facilitating education or other social services programming for vulnerable populations


Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

  • Ability to use email, video conferencing, phone and basic MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Knowledge of local and web-based community organizations and groups frequented by Afghan community members
  • Proven commitment to maintaining confidentiality on sensitive and private communications
  • Proven success achieving goals and working effectively with all levels of staff in a multicultural environment.

Language Skills:  Written and spoken fluency in English, Dari, and Pashto


Working Environment:  Combination of standard office environment, remote work, and travel within the local community.

Compensation: Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget.  Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirement
