We are looking for an engaged Senior Expert / Advisor - Forest Carbon Market & Integrity, who brings solid expertise and a passion for FSC’s mission, to work with us in a multinational environment.

 

The Scope

To lead the development and deployment of FSC’s new ground-breaking offerings for the forest carbon market. With strong topic and market expertise, the selected candidate will develop and nurture FSC’s value propositions to forest carbon market actors, build and operate critical integrity infrastructure and safeguards such as an FSC registry, and manage relationships with investors and commercial partners globally in collaboration with the FSC Network Partners.

 

Main Roles and Responsibilities

  • Commercial and market development
    • Lead development and integrity of FSC value proposition as certification basis for carbon unit projects aimed at carbon markets.
    • Serve as an expert on commercial and development partnerships with carbon market standards, especially on integrity matters such as registry linking, trademark use, and commercial agreements. 
    • Represent FSC in expert groups, working groups, external projects and market related events on forest carbon.
  • Global support centre on ecosystem and carbon markets, trends, prices, products (such as credits, offsetting, neutralisation) and competitors.
    • Serve as main contact point for the global organisation on all matters related to FSC’s role in carbon markets.
    • Support, participate, or guide internal and external development projects and research, with market and topic expertise on functioning and products of forest carbon markets.
    • Own, develop, and promote FSC as a solution for enhanced carbon market integrity.
  • Topical Lead on CES System Integrity, incl. Claims Registry.
    • Together with CES Programme Manager and System Integrity Team, constitute project leadership and senior expertise for CES System Integrity project(s).
    • Work closely with organisation and external contractors in owning and ensuring quality and content of deliverables through mentoring, subject matter expertise, content production and review.
    • Gradually take ownership of and responsibility for content and quality regarding operation, update, and use of tools and processes as they are rolled out.
    • Together with senior IT and Sales colleagues, constitute core group developing FSC Claims Registry. Lead and assume responsibility for usability and functioning of registry from a market and integrity perspective.
  • Coordinate with FSC Network Partners, representatives, and other regional and global topic leads.
  • Any other task as assigned by formal supervisor and project work as assigned according to special organizational needs.

 

Qualification, Experience and Skills

  • Education and Training:
    • University degree or equivalent training or experience in a relevant field (for example Forestry, Environmental Economics, Sustainability)
  • Working Experience, Style and Skills:
    • At least 10 years of professional experience in roles with exposure to and interaction with one or more of the major carbon markets, preferably on forest carbon or nature-based solutions.
    • Proven track record on and solid experience with Compliance, ESG, CSR reporting or similar.
    • Strong communication and informal skills, trusted relationship builder with networking skills.
    • Strategic thinking and business mindset, a solution- and service-oriented attitude to work, and a proven ability to plan and organize.
    • Ability to work well as a member of a multi-cultural, inter-disciplinary, multi-lingual, global team.
  • Computer Skills:
    • Experience with standard software packages (MS Office) and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems, for example Salesforce.
  • Language and Communication Skills:
    • Fluency in English.
    • Additional fluency in Spanish or French is a plus.
    • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills.

 

Terms and Conditions:

  • Location: Bonn – remote location within EU possible.
  • Working Hours: Consultancy-based and/or full-time (40 hours per week). Part time of 60% or more could be considered.
  • Duration of Employment: 1 - 2 years (extension possible, subject to satisfactory performance).
  • Starting Date: As soon as possible.
  • Travel: sporadic travel is required.
