1. Organizational Context
- Organizational Setting
Coordinating with other vertical and horizontal WIPO sectors, the IP and Innovation Ecosystems Sector (IES) is responsible for helping Member States develop their IP and innovation ecosystems to drive enterprise and economic growth. IES is also responsible for providing support for researchers and innovators, as well as enterprises, including SMEs, in IP commercialization and otherwise using IP for business growth; issues relating to the emergence of IP as an asset class; and the development of advisory expertise in these and related areas, for example, in national IP strategies.
Within IES, the post is located in the IP for Innovators Department, which contributes to WIPO’s Strategic Goal to help establish frameworks, structures and capabilities to support innovators and creators in using intellectual property (IP) systems as a tool for sustainable development, through enabling IP and innovation ecosystems that support innovators, creators and other IP users to maximize the value of their IP assets and specifically in the field of patent analytics as an strategic tool for effectively exploiting the use of patent information and other scientific and technical information in particular by providing capacity building to national and regional Technology and Innovation Support Center (TISC) networks, as well as being responsible for activities related to the drafting of patent landscape reports and the preparation of WIPO Technology Trends (WITT) publications.
- Purpose Statement
The main role of the incumbent is to develop and deliver projects on the effective utilization of IP system knowledge, in particular of patent analytics, for the promotion and support of innovation in developing and least-developed countries.
- Reporting Lines
The incumbent works under the supervision of the Patent Analytics Manager and the Director of the Technology and Innovation Support Division.
- Working Relations
The incumbent works in close collaboration with other members of the Division, as well as other parts of the Organization including the Regional and National Development and Global Issues Sectors, as well as the ICT Department.
2. Duties and Responsibilities
The incumbent will perform the following principal duties\:
a. Implement, monitor and evaluate the quality delivery of work products with regard to the development of patent landscape reports and other publications in the field of patent analytics.
b. Undertake research and contribute to the preparation of public information materials such as guides on using patent data analysis and related tools.
c. Review the different deliverables of the contracted services leading to the publication of the WIPO Technology Trends (WITT) Report, in particular by participating in the development of search methodology and the content of the patent analytical work, as well as supporting the organization of related events.
d. Plan, organize and participate as resource person in training seminars and workshops on the effective utilization of IP information and analysis as well as related services and ensure the preparation of associated training materials and presentations.
e. Represent the Division at seminars, workshops and meetings with a view to sharing knowledge externally on project activities and outcomes and developing future projects related to the effective utilization of IP information.
f. Undertake research in technical subject matter related to WIPO publications in the area of patent analytics.
g. Perform other related duties as required.
3. Requirements
Education (Essential)
First-level university degree in science, engineering, computer and/or information science or related field.
Experience (Essential)
At least six years of relevant professional experience, including experience in patent analytics.
Language (Essential)
Excellent knowledge of spoken and written English.
Language (Desirable)
Knowledge of other official UN languages.

5. Information
Mobility\: WIPO staff members are international civil servants subject to the authority of the Director General and may be assigned to any activities, office or duty station of the Organization. Accordingly, the selected candidate may be required to move from time to time to new functions and/or to another duty station.
Annual salary\:
Total annual salary consists of a net annual salary (net of taxes and before medical insurance and pension fund deductions) in US dollars and a post adjustment. Please note that this estimate is for information only. The post adjustment multiplier (cost of living allowance) is variable and subject to change (increase or decrease) without notice. The figures quoted below are based on the April 2023 rate of 84 %

Additional Information
Initial period of two years, renewable, subject to satisfactory performance. No fixed-term appointment or any extension hereof shall carry with it any expectancy of, nor imply any right to, (further) extensions or conversion to a permanent appointment.
