Mission and objectives

The mission of WHO in the area of transplantation is to meet the requirement of the fifty-seventh World health Assembly resolution WHA57.18.. Objectives can be summarized as follows: To work with Member states and to provide assistance at their request to ensure effective national oversight of allogeneic and xenogeneic transplantation activities. This would ensure accountability, traceability, and appropriate surveillance of adverse events (in particular transmission of infectious agents of xenogeneic origin); To increase access of citizens to safe and effective transplantation of cell, tissue and organ. Additionally, to ensure ethical and technical practices of the procurement of human material for transplantation to the follow-up of recipients and live donors; To promote international cooperation to encourage the global harmonization of technical and ethical practices in transplantation. This would include the prevention of the exploitation of the disadvantaged through transplant tourism and the sale of human material for transplantation. To encourage donation of human material for transplantation. The "Clinical Procedures" unit in the Department of Essential Health Technologies is responsible for promoting the appropriate effective and safe use of cell, tissue and organ transplantation. This includes the surveillance of risks particularly in xenotransplantation. This department is also responsible for ensuring efficacy, safety and equity in the provision of clinical procedures in surgery, anaesthetics, obstetrics and orthopaedics particularly at the district hospital level.

Context

The mission of WHO’s Emergencies Preparedness and Response (EPR) programme is to support member states to i) prepare for and prevent disease outbreaks and health emergencies, ii) promptly detect, report, and confirm outbreaks, and iii) strengthen and sustain their capacity to respond to and recover from the negative effects of health emergencies. This UNV assignment is for the Emergency Preparedness & Response Programme Nairobi Hub.

Task description

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Regional Supply Chain Lead and under the overall guidance of the Emergency Operations Support and Logistics Manager, the UN Volunteer will: · Collect and analyze OSL AFRO Supply Chain data. · Convert OSL AFRO Supply Chain data into information and use it to create supply chain trend reports. · Develop, manage, and optimize OSL AFRO Supply Chain dashboards including content, structure, file location, and backup system. · Performing inventory analysis and prepare stock inventory reports. · Analyze Supply Chain risks which are evident from the data reviews. · Support the continuous improvement of Supply Chain processes and procedures through data analytics. · Measure Supply Chain performance and report to management. · Assist in monitoring and reporting on the agreed Supply Chain KPIs of OSL AFRO. · Collect, collate, manage, and analyze data from all partners; aggregate the relevant information and transform it into narrative text, maps, and graphics to enable strategic planning and decision-making. · Aggregate and maintain information from technical teams, field offices, and partners including contact lists, event-specific information (what, where, who, how many, how quickly, current status), shipment data, OSL emergency response data, etc. · Develop tools to harmonize Supply Chain data collection and processes across WHO Regional Emergency Hubs to facilitate consolidation of information. Respond to specific information requests from technical teams and partners, ensure dissemination of information and knowledge sharing. · Manage OSL email boxes and share points, as required. · Provide technical expertise, related to information and data management, seeking to improve information sharing, to strengthen access to information from other organizations and clusters, and to contribute to intersectoral dashboards and reports. · Verify data quality (completeness, timeliness), identify gaps in OSL information management, recommend corrective actions, and prepare relevant documents to include in project proposals, internal and external situation reports (SitReps), bulletins, etc. · Participate in any other activity that may be required in connection with the OSL data management and perform any other OSL specific related duties, as required by the functional supervisor.
