Department(s)
The Intern will be working on promoting the decent work and just transition agenda in the ILO as well as in the broader UN system, with a particular focus on the UN climate change conference (COP28) in Dubai, UAE. The intern will therefore be working with the Priority Action Programme on just transitions towards environmentally sustainable economies and societies (AP/Just Transitions).
The AP/Just Transitions will promote consistent progress in the area of just transition through integrated technical support to constituents, capacity development, resource mobilization and partnerships, with a horizon of a four-year implementation period.
The Action Programme is expected to result in:
i) a strengthened capacity of governments and social partners to advance social justice and decent work through the design and implementation of coherent national policies for a just transition, and
ii) social justice and decent work are promoted in a coherent and effective way within the multilateral system, including UN agencies, IFIs and multigovernmental groupings such as the G20, to a chieve a just transition.
Learning areas
As an intern in the AP/Just Transitions, you will be exposed to a whole range of areas such as project management, event planning, and strategic communication. Specifically, tasks during the internship will consist of the following:
• Assist in the logistical coordination, organisation, planning, and preparation of the ILO presence at COP28.
• Support in the planning, preparation, and implementation of a Just Transition Pavilion at COP28 in Dubai.
• This includes, supporting in the communication with the Event Management providers, and ensuring timely delivery of Pavilion materials
• Review and develop engaging and impactful communication content (articles, webpage, campaign sites, podcasts, Social Media etc) on climate change, green jobs, just transition, and other related topics.
• Support the convening of just transition policy dialogues.
Examples of concrete deliverables could be:
• Effective project support provided to the COP28 logistical team.
• The successful implementation and evaluation of a Just Transition Pavilion at COP28.
• Updated grant chart / project management matrix that tracks plans and progress and flags upcoming issues for the organisation of the Just Transition Pavilion at COP28.
• Support communication efforts related to just transition, decent work, and climate change across several platforms
• Effective preparation for, and follow up from, key meetings e.g. presentation decks prepared, brief notes written and shared quickly, proactive follow up taken.
• Ensure a systematic evaluation of the Pavilion at COP28.
Interns should expect to devote up to 20% of their time to administrative tasks.
Required profile
Education
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in in event management, communications, environmental studies or related field
- The candidate should be enrolled in their final year of graduate degree programme or should have completed such a programme no longer than 1 years ago
Experience
Any experience in communication, event management, or organisation of large conference/pavilions/exhibitions is an advantage.
Languages
Working knowledge of English.
Competencies
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, Excellent written and verbal communication skills, Ability to work independently and as part of a team, creativity and proactivity, adaptable to an international, multicultural and multilingual environment, good communication skills and be able to work in a team.
Additional Requirements
Knowledge of graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Photoshop or other is an advantage.

Selection process:
Following a first screening by the Human Resources Development Department (HRD), hiring departments will short-list applicants. You will be directly contacted should an internship opportunity match your profile. If you have not been contacted by any department within six months after your application, you can consider that you have not been selected by any department for this roster. If still eligible, you may apply to the next roster.
If shortlisted, you may be contacted by the hiring department for a written test and/or interview. The ILO may use communication technologies such as Skype, Video or teleconference, e-mail, etc for the assessment and evaluation of candidates.
Stipend:
As an intern in Geneva, you will receive a stipend of 2450 CHF per month from the ILO, unless you receive funding through another institution (for example your university or a foundation). If you receive partial funding, ILO will cover the difference to ensure you receive 2450 CHF per month. Your travel to Geneva will be at your own expense.I
In addition to the amounts referred above, each intern shall receive the amount of CHF45 per month, or the equivalent amount in the currency in which the monthly stipend is paid, which is a contribution from the Office towards the cost of medical insurance to cover the period of the internship.
Insurance:
Please note that the ILO does not take responsibility for any costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the internship. You will be responsible for your own insurance coverage for illness and accidents for the duration of the internship at the duty station (whether Geneva or the field).
