Mission and objectives
The United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) was established by Security Council resolution 2100 of 25 April 2013 to support political processes in the country and to carry out a number of security-related tasks. The Mission has been asked to support the transitional authorities of Mali in the stabilization of the country and implementation of the transitional roadmap, focusing on major population centers and lines of communication, protecting civilians, human rights monitoring, the creation of conditions for the provision of humanitarian assistance and the return of displaced persons, the extension of State authority and the preparation of free, inclusive and peaceful elections. Context

Task description
Under the direct supervision of the regional Medical Officer/Regional Administration Officer and /the Chief Medical Officer, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: • Attending MINUSMA Medical Dental care room in the clinics on a full time basis; • Overseeing and training all other staff working in the Dental care room in the clinic (nurses and Medical Assist); • Refer and follow up dental cases to higher specialist for complicated procedure when-ever required. • Supervise the instrument sterilization room workflow • Update infection control plan and maintain high infection control standard in the dental care room and workflow • Participate in the planning, management, and implementation of adequate infection control measures in the mission health facilities at all levels. • Maintaining medication and Dental medical supply stock through timely requests to the mission pharmacist. • Providing Dental prophylaxis care for all MINUSMA staff. • Conducting health education and sensitization on health topics related to dental care; • Ensure functionality, cleanness, and availability of well running dental chair • Proper functioning of dental related medical equipment and instruments. • Support daily medical consultations of MINUSMA staff (UN civilian, UNV, national and international contractors) in the UN level I clinic; • Being on call during and outside office hours to observe and treat emergencies in the medical clinic; • Support in maintaining the medical preparedness of the clinic to respond to emergency conditions; • Responding to emergency treatment due to trauma; conducting triage to prioritize emergency treatment; • Ensure optimum and rational use of resources while respecting medical ethics. • Assist to manage the procurement of drugs, medical equipment, consumables and medical supplies locally and in accordance with UN system contracts. • Support and participate in pre-deployment visits, pre-placement and periodic medical examinations, Immunizations for Eligible Personnel, refer staff to respective specialists when necessary, follow-up with specialists within and out country; • Provides relevant public health guidance to the facility management team in the mission and contractors providing catering, sanitation and fumigation services at the UN camps within MINUSMA. • Participates in inspection of TCC dental chairs • Undertakes day-to-day clinical duties, e.g. walk-in clinic, responding to emergencies; • Reporting on all activities to CMO and his/her designate on a weekly and monthly basis • When working with (including supervising) national staff or (non-)governmental counterparts, including Implementing Partners (IPs), the incumbent is strongly encouraged to set aside dedicated time for capacity development through coaching, mentoring and formal and on-the-job training; Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to: • Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day); • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country; • Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities; • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.; • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers; • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service when-ever technically possible. 11. Results/Expected Outputs: • Medical practices and trainings are effectively planned and implemented; • Physical and mental health of UN staff is ensured through prevention and treatment; • The development of capacity through coaching, mentoring and formal on-the-job training, when working with (including supervising) national staff or (non-) governmental counterparts, including Implementing Partners (IPs); • Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment • A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for peace and development during the assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in and capacities developed
