The Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB) recruits committed and skilled experts for our humanitarian, resilience and peace support operations worldwide on a daily basis. We have great experience on working together and strengthening other organisations for example the UN and the EU in crisis, conflicts or other disasters.

The MSB is opening our roster for Camp Technician interested in working with us in our humanitarian operations.

The MSB has long experience of building different types of camps, it can be everything from emergency housing and basecamps to office space, guesthouses etc. We use both tents and prefabricated solutions, but also support partners with fixed constructions.

Deployed as a Camp technician, the mission length varies greatly depending on the type of deployment and can be from a few days up to 6 month.

The MSB highly values the well-being of our staff and whilst on mission you will have access to health and safety support from the MSB 24 hours a day.

When registered on the MSB roster you will continuously receive interesting international job opportunities and invitations to stimulating and valuable trainings and exercises. Prior to a mission with us, you need to conduct the MSB Field Staff Induction Training.

MSB öppnar nu resursbasen för Camp Tekniker som är intresserade av att delta i våra humanitära insatser.

MSB har lång erfarenhet av att bygga olika typer av camp lösningar runt om i världen. Det kan vara allt från basläger till nödbostäder i tält och prefabricerade moduler till fasta konstruktioner som tex kontor och bostäder.
Som Camp tekniker kan insats tiden variera från någon vecka upp till 6 månader.

En registrering i resursbasen löper initialt över tre år och som registrerad erbjuds du under denna period delta i förberedande utbildning samt förväntas vara tillgänglig för insatser. Innan du åker på insats måste du genomföra MSB Field Staff Induction Training. Du måste också genomföra, och godkännas på en hälsoundersökning.

As a Camp technician, you will be:

• Responsible for setting up the camp
• Responsible for general camp infrastructure and camp planning
• Responsible for maintenance of the general infrastructure
• Training local staff to assist and take over the areas of his/her responsibility
• Supporting everyone else in the team when necessary
• Expected to take on whatever other tasks necessary for the best of the team.

Experience

A minimum of 3 years’ experience within relevant area of expertise.

• Relevant experience of practical work
• Experience of setting up tents or prefabricated buildings is an advantage
• Experience and knowledge from various handicraft professions, e.g. carpenters, electricians, plumbers or equivalent is an advantage
• Experience of working in difficult urban environments is an advantage.

Education

Practical education and training within relevant area of expertise e.g. carpentry, electric, plumbing or equivalent

Languages

The ability to make yourself understood in English is necessary.

Knowledge of French, Arabic, Spanish or any other official UN languages is an asset.

Other requirements

In this recruitment, we are looking for European citizens.

We are looking for persons with a strong commitment towards humanitarian relief and disaster operations that are available for both longer and sometimes shorter, rapid missions.

It is of utmost priority that you understand, respect and act in the spirit of the mandate and core values of the MSB.

Before a registration on MSB's roster, you need to fill in a self-assessed health declaration. If recruited for an international mission, you also need to undergo a health examination before departure.

MSB operations are based on the needs of populations affected by crisis, and human equality. Through your behavior and work as MSB field staff, you actively strive to prevent discrimination and harassment based on sex, ethnic origin, age, religion or belief, political opinion, disability, sexual orientation and gender identity or expression.

• You must be able to interact with sensitivity and display respect for diversity and gender in multi-cultural environments.
• A capacity for working under pressure is essential, as work is often performed under difficult and demanding conditions, where the focus frequently shifts due to changes in priority.
• You must possess a high level of professional and personal maturity together with an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, managers and external partners, such as UN organizations, NGOs, recipient governments and host populations.
• You are expected to show initiative and take both a hands-on and sometimes an analytical approach to tasks and problems.

Working with MSB on international operations means that you are temporary employed by The MSB. The MSB pays salaries and other benefit packages depending on the mission, including free return travel and access to health and safety support functions from MSB 24/7 during your mission.

The MSB roster contains a variety of professions and competences. A registration on our roster is initially for three years. It is your responsibility that your information on Mypages is always up to date during this period. It is mandatory to participate in MSB’s Field Staff Introduction Course (one week) before you are being deployed.

When registered as Camp Technician on the MSB roster, you may be offered training that means that you can also be relevant for other profiles. This can for example be water treatment course for rapid assessment missions in the event of a crisis or disaster.

Selection and interviews will take place continuously.
