Desired Candidate Profile
- Assist in drafting and revising architectural and technical guidelines, templates, checklists and tools for all UNHCR offices worldwide.
- Provide technical guidance and support to field offices on engineering and design-related issues such as works, office building sourcing, facilities management, and space planning.
- Assist in reviewing layouts and specifications to ensure compliance with best practices, codes, regulations, and industry standards.
- Support various tasks within the Section including but not limited to, preparing tendering documents, terms of reference, requests for proposals, memos, answering to technical questions from field colleagues as well as analysing technical bids and preparing/reviewing evaluations.
- Assist with developing concepts and model layouts for accessible, equitable, and inclusive workspaces. Participate in design meetings and contribute to the development of innovative design solutions.
- Manage UNHCR's facilities information database. Ensure the data integrity, data quality and up-to-dateness at all times.
- Assist colleagues with database usage and provide them with technical support.
- Analyse the data and assist in identifying intervention schemes to improve the standard of UNHCR's global portfolio of offices.
- Support on the expansion of other technological platforms designed to improve the management of facilities.
- Prepare effective reports, written summaries, and presentations.
- Participate in meetings and consultations as required, including conducting support missions to field offices.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Essential
- Proficiency in architectural and computer aided design software (AutoCAD, ArchiCAD).
- Good command of MS Office suite applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Experience in drafting of architectural and engineering design, planning of works, blueprints and model layouts, specifications, cost estimates and time schedules for new construction.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Desirable
- Good knowledge and understanding of legislation governing construction, technical regulations and special technical conditions and professional codes.
- Excellent drawing skills, visual awareness and familiarity with software such as Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, 3D Design (Revit, SketchUp), 3D Rendering (Vray, 3D Max), 3D visualization (Lumion, Blender).

For G6 - 3 years relevant experience with High School Diploma; or 2 years relevant work experience with Bachelor or equivalent or higher.
NOTE: A completed and relevant minimum first level university degree (equivalent to BA or higher) shall count in full (100%) towards the required years of work experience. Priority will be given to eligible applicants meeting the full requirements
Remuneration:
In case of appointment, a competitive compensation and benefits package is offered.
G6 - Salary range: NET 587,586 HUF - NET 688,996 HUF.

Annual leave: UNHCR staff members holding a fixed-term appointment will accrue annual leave at the rate of 2.5 working days for each full calendar months of service (i.e. 30 working days per year).
Pension system: Staff members holding a fixed-term appointment will become participants in the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF).
Health insurance plan: locally recruited staff members in Budapest will be enrolled in the Medical Insurance Plan (MIP). The coverage is also optionally available for eligible family members.

Nature of Position
The Global Infrastructure Section is one of the four pillars of the Global Mobility and Infrastructure Service (GMIS) within the Division of Financial and Administrative Management (DFAM). The main objective of the Section is to ensure centrally coordinated office facilities management and to provide engineering services to all UNHCR operations, enabling sustainable, equitable and healthy workspaces that meet the needs of staff.
As part of the Section, the Global Facilities Support Team in Budapest provides technical expertise in engineering, guidance on property acquisition and leasing of premises, and facilities management as well as monitoring and recording of UNHCR’s network of field offices. For construction projects, support is provided for the procurement of works and services, construction management and contract administration. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of Land and Buildings Officer reporting to the Senior Land and Buildings Officer in Global Infrastructure Section.
This position of Architect Associate is to provide crucial technical work and support to the unit, contributing to drafting, implementing and reporting on the strategic objectives that the Global Infrastructure Section has set for UNHCR's network of field offices. The incumbent is responsible to provide support to the field operations in a wide range of architectural, engineering and construction activities, with due attention to compliance with UNHCR's policies, standards and best practice framework.
Another important area of work is to promote the implementation of a healthy, equitable and sustainable workspace for colleagues globally. The incumbent’s tasks also include the oversight and administration of facilities database containing technical, financial, sustainability and accessibility data, and reporting on projects across UNHCR’s global network of field offices.
