NRC is looking for a Protection Specialist to join the Afghanistan mission. The role holder is the technical lead for the Protection-from-Violence thematic area and leads NRC’s Protection position vis-à-vis relevant coordination and decision-making fora. He/she provides expertise and is responsible for strategic advice, programme development, technical support, quality assurance, and capacity building. The Protection Specialist is responsible for identifying priority protection issues, building protection capacities, technical guiding the specialised protection programme, and developing and guiding the implementation of protection strategies and plans.

What You Will Do

  • Strategic Leadership: Developing the Protection strategy and contributing to integrated programming. Leading on the merge of Protection and Site Management.
  • Fundraising: Developing and revising funding proposals, budgets, and donor reports.
  • Technical Quality: Developing technical standard operating procedures, guidelines, tools, etc. Providing technical direction and project implementation support.
  • Learning: ensure key learnings are extracted and incorporated. Strengthening Protection monitoring and evaluation tools and systems, and supporting programme learning throughout the project-cycle.
  • Coordination and Representation: Represent the organization in external coordination forums/ liaise and collaborate with authorities and other key stakeholders .
  • Advocacy and Coordination: Contribute to advocacy objectives through meaningful engagement in briefings, development of advocacy products, and coordination.
  • Capacity Building: Providing training and building capacity of technical staff.

 

What You Will Bring

  • Senior management Camp Coordination and Camp Management experience in a humanitarian/recovery context.
  • Protection, legal frameworks, and professional standards understanding in a humanitarian and displacement context.
  • Afghanistan context and humanitarian community response experience and knowledge.
  • High risk, insecure, opaque, complex, and volatile context exposure.
  • English fluency, both written and verbal.

What We Offer

  • Kabul, Afghanistan duty station.
  • 12 month contract duration.
  • 30% travel, approximately.
  • Grade 9 in NRC’s Salary Scale. NRC offers a competitive compensation and benefits package.
