About the Role:
Reporting to the Chief Innovation Officer, the agronomist will use their expertise in research and agroforestry systems to assist the agriculture department in developing agroforestry techniques in line with myAgro's business model and North Star. You will conduct research, pilot projects and make recommendations to increase farmers' return on investment taking into account myAgro's business model, supply chain, field team capabilities and farmers' behavior. We operate in a part of the world that is already experiencing the harsh consequences of climate change, and our farmers are among the most vulnerable populations. The agronomist is a crucial new role in helping myAgro in its ambition to create sustainable and climate resilient livelihoods for these farmers, preparing them for a better and more food secure future.
You Will:
- Conduct and lead technical research to develop new methods to support the scaling up of myAgro's agricultural programs
- Coordinate projects and programs to build resilience and prosperity of smallholder farmers
- Train and support the myAgro team in the agroforestry program to improve the productivity of smallholder farmers.
- Help expand mAgro's agroforestry program
- Connect and work with research centers and other specialists to stay informed about recent developments in agroforestry
- Propose farmer pilot projects to test innovations under real conditions
- Propose agroforestry crops/varieties/techniques that fit the myAgro business model and North Star
- Support the monitoring and evaluation of agroforestry systems
- Support the design and management of pilot trials with farmers
- Visit and interview farmers to identify agroforestry innovations and obtain feedback
- Develop a process for measuring the impact of agroforestry systems and programs
- Evaluate experimental trials/pilots to help train the sales team on new product launches
- Collate data on agricultural activities through surveys, assessments, regular post-distribution monitoring, and field supervision visits
You Have:
- 5+ years of experience as an agronomist or expert advisor on agroforestry programs, preferably West Africa
- Bachelor's degree in Agronomy or related Agricultural field
- Designed and developed agroforestry programs in rural areas of Africa
- Knowledge of farming best practices, seed technologies, fertilizers and crop protection
- Understanding of statistical principles and data analysis
- Technical knowledge of product portfolio, product pipeline and product value propositions.
- Research, critical thinking, and problem solving skills
- Held a position on the crossroads between multiple departments
- Fluency in French and a good level in English
