Assistant Research Associate, Maize DH Facility

CIMMYT is looking for an outstanding, self-motivated, and result-oriented professional for the position of Assistant Research Associate, Maize DH Facility.
 
The position will be based at Kunigal (Karnataka), India.
 
The main responsibilities of this position will be: 
 
•Planning and implementing all DH laboratory and greenhouse activities that include identification of haploid kernels, doubling of chromosomes, establishment of D1 nurseries and harvest of D1 seed.
oSupervise and conduct all the laboratory and greenhouse activities.
oSupervise and conduct data collection, inventory, and safekeeping.
oImplement occupational health and safety protocols.
oTrain lab attendants and associated staff in occupational health and safety aspects.
oTrain lab attendants in various activities related to DH line production
•Ensure smooth functioning of the DH laboratory at ARS-Kunigal.
oMaintain inventories of all lab assets, supplies, etc. at the facility and regularly report on the same to the supervisor.
oAssist in timely maintenance and upkeep of lab and greenhouse equipment.
oAssist in timely procurement of DH laboratory supplies in compliance with institutional procedures.
•Assist in the organization of training courses, workshops and provide support to visitors.
•Make periodic reports of various activities undertaken at the facility to the supervisor/s.
•Travel as per needs of the job.
•Any other activities assigned by the supervisor.
 
We are seeking candidates with the following qualification, skills and attitudes:
 
•Minimum Master’s degree in Agriculture or a related field.
•At least 6 months experience in maize DH line production.
•Demonstrated ability to manage greenhouse and laboratory activities.
•Demonstrated competence in the use of computer software for data management and analysis.
•Fluency in spoken and written English. Ability to communicate in Hindi and Kannada desirable.
•Ability to work in a multidisciplinary and multi-cultural environment.
• The selected candidate must exhibit the following competencies: Creative Thinking, Teamwork, Communication and Client Orientation.
 
The position is for an initial fixed-term contract of 1 year, after which further employment is subject to performance and the continued availability of funds. CIMMYT offers an attractive remuneration package, with a range of benefits including health insurance.
