In order to strengthen Gavi’s position and collaboration with other partners, and alignment with national priorities in selected countries, Gavi is looking to recruit a dynamic, results-oriented intern to join its fast-paced Secretariat in Geneva and support the IFS team to achieve its objectives.

In this capacity, the intern will be directly responsible for supporting IFS team in the implementation of cross-cutting projects relevant to the IFS team.
 
Sustainability of countries in transition
•    Analysing the budgetary, macro, and fiscal prospects of countries in transition;
•    Identifying potential weaknesses that would hinder successful transition.

Co-financing and vaccine stockout risks
•    Identifying historical stockouts;
•    Analysing the linkages between timely payment of co-financing and stockouts;
•    Identifying stockout risks associated with co-financing delays;
•    Supporting communication to countries on risks associated with delayed payment of co-financing;
•    Coming up with solutions to avoid stockouts in the context of multi-year approvals;
•    Improving the team’s capacity to have visibility on stocks.

Co-financing optimization through vaccine product switches
•    Support analysis on financial implications of product switches;
•    Liaise with the Vaccine Programmes and Market Shaping teams to establish how the financial optimisation fits in from a programmatic and market shaping perspective.

Direct Facility Financing (DFF)
•    Documenting Gavi experience in DFF;
•    Stocktaking of current DFF schemes supported by Gavi;
•    Internal communications about lessons learned from Gavi engagement in DFF.

Budgeting of co-financing requirements
•    Documenting annual and mid-term budgeting of Gavi co-financing requirements in national budgets of Gavi-eligible countries;
•    Identifying gaps and opportunities for advocacy and capacity-building in planning and budgeting of vaccines domestic financing needs.

Review of Gavi’s eligibility criteria
•    Support analytical work for the review of Gavi’s eligibility criteria;
•    Development of slides on selected topics and options.

•    Work in the field of global health at global or national level;
•    Experience with doing analytical work in the context of global health.

•    Excellent inter-personal, oral, and written communication, presentation, negotiation, and advocacy skills;
•    Ability to work successfully in an international and multi-cultural environment; 
•    Excellent quantitative and analytical skills with economic and social data; 
•    Excellent strategic and problem-solving skills;
•    Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel;
•    Ability to take initiative in the absence of specific instructions, and to work effectively and efficiently with minimal supervision.
•    Written and spoken fluency in English;
•    Fluency in other languages an asset.
 
•    Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in health/development economics, economics, public health, social sciences, international affairs, or related fields.
 
•    Gavi Secretariat.
Duration:    Start: 1 July 2023 (for up to 6 months)

Eligibility criteria: 
The candidates must be enrolled in a university or have graduated within the past 12 months. 
Interns are expected to be interning on a full-time basis.
