Organizational Setting
The project GCP/CVI/049/CPR is aimed at strengthening capacity development with the objective of supporting production systems to enhance food and nutrition security in the country. Priority areas to be supported within this three-year project include agricultural production, pest control, livestock and seaweed aquaculture. The project outcomes and outputs will contribute mainly to the FAO’s Strategic Objective 1 (SO1), Strategic Objective 2 (SO2) and Strategic Objective 4 (SO4).
More specifically, the project would provide technical assistance in the:
• Promotion of horticulture, through the technical assistance on soil, water and fertilizer management for horticulture;
• Promotion of the plant protection by introducing methods and organizing field trainings for the Integrated Pest Management of corn worms and the biological control methods on the soil pests in Cabo Verde
• Realization of a study on the seaweed eco-physiology and the potential of seaweed cultivation and value chain in Cabo Verde and development/implementation of pilot sites to introduce and promote the culture of seaweed in the country.
• Promotion of livestock smallholder, by improving the animal production and enhancement of animal genetics, strengthening epidemiologic surveillance and enhancing livestock products;
The Interpreter/Translator will be hired by FAO Cabo Verde Representation, under a PSA contract and should work closely with the Experts under the project GCP/CVI/049/CPR and with the Assistant of the FAO Representative (Programme) on providing substantive technical expertise.
Reporting Lines
The Interpreter/Translator reports to Assistant of FAO Representative (PROGRAMME).
Technical Focus
Capacity development for timely interpretation, translation and revision of reports, publications and other documents from and to English, French, Chinese and Portuguese.
Tasks and responsibilities
The incumbent will lead the following general tasks:
• Provide simultaneous, consecutive and whispered interpretation from and to English/Chinese and Portuguese/Créole at project meetings;
• Translate meeting documents, technical papers and studies, periodical publications and official correspondence;
• Translate technical documents and background papers and studies, reports, publications, official correspondence and complex texts used for decision-making, in such a way that the translated text is, in meaning and style and effectiveness, equivalent to the original version.
• Ensure high quality and accuracy of the entire translated document before submitting / dissemination to the user.
• Consult with substantive units regarding possible inconsistencies or errors in the original text.
• Ensure that the translation is written with style, correct grammar and spelling, and completes the work within the agreed timeline and submits the final translation in soft copy.
• Undertake any other related duties as assigned or defined by FAO Representative.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
• University degree in Linguistic Studies, Translation, Interpretation or any related field
• Working knowledge of English/Portuguese/French/Chinese
• At least 03 years of relevant experience at national or international level
• National of Cabo Verde or a legal resident in the country
