The Universal Postal Union (UPU), a specialized agency of the United Nations and the principal forum for cooperation between postal sector stakeholders, establishes the rules for international mail exchanges. It has 192 member countries and has its headquarters in Berne.

Its primary objective is to encourage the provision of a quality postal service that is accessible to all, and its core mission is to develop social, cultural and commercial communication between peoples.

The UPU comprises several bodies, including the Postal Operations Council (POC), made up of representatives from 41 member countries, which considers operational and technical matters of interest to the postal service. It promotes the introduction of new postal products. It also establishes standards for the various technological, operational or other processes and procedures for their implementation.

The traineeship will encompass a detailed examination of the postal security certification. A focused review of the UPU Standards S58 and S59, guidance material and certification process along with all associated materials to identify process improvements and streamlining capabilities will be conducted. An examination of the advantages and disadvantages of expanding the security certification process to wider postal sector players (WPSPs) will also be examined.
Main duties:
The trainee will be required to:
- Identify areas of improvement in the UPU Security Standards S58/S59
- Provide final proposal of any identify improvements to the Postal Security Group and Standards Board
- Identify areas of improvement and synergies in the Security Certification Process/Guidelines to facilitate adoption by Designated Operators and ensure consistency among Security Reviewers.
- Provide updated certification process/guidelines to the PSG for endorsement.
- Adapting standards to the cycle of continuous improvement Plan, Do, Check, Act (PDCA)

In line with UPU rules, this traineeship is reserved EXCLUSIVELY for STUDENTS. Any other candidate profile will not be considered. Recent graduates in the areas described above are also invited to apply. They must have graduated within six months of the date of this announcement.

The traineeship will be remunerated in accordance with current UPU Human Resources rules.

The conditions of service are governed by the Staff Regulations and Rules of the International Bureau of the Universal Postal Union.
