Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate to protect, advocate and promote durable solutions for displacement affected populations. 
DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently DRC employs over 250 staff in Ukraine and will continue significant scale-up in 2022 to implement emergency response in the Protection, Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mine action) sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations (CSOs), and partnerships with CSOs. DRC will continue and adapt its durable solutions portfolio to the evolving context.

DRC is currently looking for a Protection assistant (Gender Based Violence) for its activities in Dnipro and Eastern region, including but not limited to Zaporizhzhia oblast. 

This position will report to the Protection Team Leader (GBV).

 

Overall purpose of the role:

Under the management of the Protection team leader (GBV), the Protection assistant (GBV) will support the implementation of GBV prevention and response activities in Dnipro and Eastern region, including but not limited to Zaporizhzhia oblast. The Protection assistant (GBV) will be responsible for providing case management services to survivors of GBV, including psychosocial support, referrals to appropriate services and follow-up. She will also work to raise awareness of GBV and available services and promote prevention strategies within targeted communities. She will be based in Dnipro DRC office, with field activities in Eastern region, including but not limited to Zaporizhzhia oblast. 

 

Main responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Protection Team Leader (GBV), the Protection assistant (GBV) will:

  • Provide case management services in line with SOPs and procedures, including the interagency GBV case management guidelines;
  • Effectively use and comply with all the tools, forms and SOPs related to case management as communicated by the Protection Manager/Team Leader.
  • Operate in close alignment with referral pathways agreed at interagency level.
  • Provide emotional counseling and psychosocial support to survivors
  • Coordinate closely with service providers to ensure survivors and individuals at risk of GBV are provided with high quality service provision (including medical assistance, mental health support and material/safety assistance)
  • Ensure proper documentation of case data and information in line with the GBV case management guiding principles, adhering to the confidentiality principle. Ensure to abide by all information-sharing protocols in place.
  • Conduct outreach activities (including awareness and capacity-building activities) with communities in safe and suitable locations
  • Identify and engage with local key stakeholders and coordinate with other organizations and services
  • Disseminate action-oriented, specific, inclusive, and supportive messaging on available services for GBV survivors
  • Provide individual protection assistance/emergency cash for protection to meet urgent needs of GBV survivors
  • Mobilize and build strong rapport with communities, adhering to dignified, culturally sensitive approaches
  • Produce quality and accurate reports and supporting documentation on CM activities and ensure their timely submission to the Team Leader for review and internal information sharing. To this end, ensure that both the hard and soft copies of all activity reports and case management files are safely archived. Overall, effectively use the tools and comply with the processes related to monitoring and reporting, including through the use of shared drive and dedicated platforms for information management such as GBVIMS. 
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by the Team Leader and/or Manager, relevant to the achievement of protection objectives

 

Required experience and competencies:

  • Minimum of 2 years working experience in GBV, social work or related field
  • Strong understanding of protection issues including child protection and gender-based violence
  • Knowledge of GBV case management guidelines
  • Previous experience in working with communities and implementing GBV prevention activities
  • Ability to discuss sensitive issues with respect and empathy
  • Ability to provide PFA and basic PSS
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Strong sense of personal integrity and understanding of confidentiality and ethics
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, Outlook/Exchange, Windows operating systems

Required education:
Relevant university degree or equivalent professional qualification

Contract length: 3 month renewable depending on performance

Designation of Duty Station: Dnipro

Start date: As soon as possible.


Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for national staff.
