Role Summary

The Project Coordinator provides leadership and operational oversight and responsibility for designated field projects, ensuring effective implementation, coordination, and security management. The role guides diverse provincial teams, builds strong stakeholder relationships, and contributes to access negotiations and overall project delivery.

Project Overview

Medair  in DRC currently implements multi-sector humanitarian projects addressing urgent needs in Health, Nutrition, WASH, and Infrastructure, MHPSS and Basic Assistance for vulnerable, conflict-affected and disaster-affected populations.

Workplace & Conditions

Based in Bunia, Democratic Republic of Congo, with regular travel to project sites, including remote locations with basic living conditions.

Responsibilities:

• Project Management: Responsible for the implementation of Medair projects including timeliness, effective budget management, quality and donor compliance in the designated location. Provide support and oversight to project managers in day-to-day decisions and ensure effective, principled delivery of quality services. Ensure robust implementation plans are in place and being followed along with clear tracking of progress and indicators.

• External Representation: Represent Medair locally and maintain relationships with authorities, communities and other humanitarian actors.

• Security Management: Manage security in assigned locations, update plans and guidelines, coordinate incident responses and ensure contingency planning. Flag incidents or concerns to CD.

• Financial Management: Support budgeting and grant management, monitoring project and base spending, and ensure appropriate compliance and controls are in place, taking appropriate action where issues arise including burn rate.

• Staff Management: Line manage Project Managers and the Project Support Manager, strengthen communication and develop an effective team that models Medair values. Provide overall leadership to the team linked to that base,

Qualifications, Experience & Technical Competencies:

• Higher-level qualification or university degree in a relevant subject.

• Excellent spoken and written English; French required depending on location.

• At least 2 years of post-qualification professional experience in a management role.

• At least 1 year of post-qualification experience in a complex humanitarian emergency.

• Experience in security management and team leadership.

Behavioural Skills

• Strong servant leadership skills with a consultative management style; diplomatic and a good communicator.

• Adaptable team player with a good understanding of cross-cultural issues.

• Able to work under pressure, manage personal stress and keep a cool head in a crisis.

• Able to oversee multiple tasks, prioritising and delegating as required.

• Committed to team-building and able to develop and support other team members.
