Job Overview:
An agronomist is a professional who specializes in the science and technology of crop production and soil management. The job of an agronomist involves a range of activities related to the cultivation of crops, the management of natural resources, and the application of sustainable farming practices.

Key Responsibilities:
•Conducting research: Agronomists will conduct research on plant breeding, crop genetics, and soil science to develop new agricultural technologies and techniques that can improve crop yields, enhance crop quality, and promote sustainable farming practices. He/She should also be able to conduct research to evaluate the efficacy of new crop protection products and other agricultural inputs.

•Developing farming strategies: Agronomists shall work with farmers, agricultural consultants, and extension agents to develop farming strategies that optimize crop productivity while minimizing the environmental impact of farming practices. This includes developing planting schedules, nutrient management plans, and pest management strategies.

•Providing education and training: Agronomists may provide education and training to farmers, extension agents, and other agricultural professionals on the best practices for sustainable farming. This includes training on crop selection, land use, soil conservation, and the use of new agricultural technologies.

•Conducting field trials: Agronomists may conduct field trials to evaluate the performance of new crop varieties, fertilizers, pesticides, and other agricultural inputs. They may also evaluate the effects of different farming practices on soil health, crop yields, and environmental quality.

•Managing natural resources: Agronomists will involve himself/herself in the management of natural resources, such as water, soil, and air. They will work to conserve these resources and prevent pollution while ensuring that agricultural practices are sustainable and productive.

•Analyzing data: Agronomists shall use a range of analytical tools to analyze data on crop yields, soil characteristics, and environmental factors. They should use this information to develop new farming strategies and improve existing practices.

•Managing natural resources: The candidate will be involved in the management of natural resources, such as water, soil, and air. They work to conserve these resources and prevent pollution while ensuring that agricultural practices are sustainable and productive.

•Providing technical support: Agronomists may provide technical support to farmers and other agricultural professionals, including advice on the selection and use of crop protection products, fertilizers, and other agricultural inputs. They may also provide guidance on crop rotation, irrigation, and other farming practices.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for this role will have an M.Sc/Ph.D in Agronomy with 3-5 years of experience in agriculture or an allied field. The candidate should have strong communication and training skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
