Process Engineer

The selected candidate will work in a team of programme engineers and operations experts on the implementation of a process-based operations model for the entire operations structure of the VLT and ELT facilities. The model is under development and will consider a lean concept as well as the digital transformation of the Observatory.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Documentation of existing workflows in process flows
  • Conduct of improvement workshops and modelling of new or modified process alternatives.
  • Performance analysis of processes and process chains.
  • Reporting and presentation of analysis results.
  • Implementation of processes and success control

Reports to:

IOP Programme Manager

Key Competences and Experience:

  • Process experience in both manufacturing and service based organisations
  • Experience with change management methods and familiar with company culture change methods
  • High level of experience in process mapping and associated technologies
  • Good knowledge in scripting development for both excel and python
  • Comprehensive reporting and result presentation
  • Ability to educate colleagues with diverse backgrounds on process approaches
  • Experience in implementing novel processes in a manufacturing environment, from ideation, to testing and final implementation.

Qualifications:

University degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline, with further specialisation and experience in process engineering.

Language skills:

The position requires a working knowledge of English.

The contract is for a fixed term duration of three years, and is subject to successful completion of the probation period. Duty Station:

The duty station will be the Paranal Observatory, located 120 km south of the city of Antofagasta, Chile. Occasionally, and depending on project needs, working periods on ESO premises will be organized. The working schedule at the Observatory will be 8 days on duty and 6 days off duty (8x6).
