Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly qualified Protection Assistant - PSS
About the Job
The overall purpose of the role is to provide group and community-based, and to facilitate PSS support to communities through guided programming, and to provide PFA training and mainstreaming to partners and DRC staff.
Sector responsibilities: Advocacy for the rights of displaced people in their context of displacement, child protection initiatives, individual protection assistance based on vulnerability, legal aid, land & property rights, sexual and gender-based violence prevention, registration services for the internally displaced and refugees, monitoring of rights and rights awareness-raising, facilitation of return and repatriation processes.
Geographic scope: Hatay Field Office
This role has an area focus and ensures compliance to DRC procedures and guidelines within the area. The role contributes to the development of country strategies, which are translated into action plans and day-to-day tasks.
Main responsibilities
· Administrative and technical support
· Work under the supervision of the PSS officer to provide group and community based PSS
support to people of concern using child centered approaches, such as play, drama and sport,
adapted to online modalities as needed;
· Assist the PSS officer in the development and roll-out of PSS curricula;
· Lead PSS support groups for both children and adolescents at risk in thematic areas such as
risk-behavior mitigation, overcoming trauma and grief;
· Lead parenting skills sessions for both parents and caregivers
· Assist the PSS officer in development of pubic community events
· Lead organizing and facilitating the public community events, adapted to online modalities as
needed;
· Document progress of group sessions and feedback to the PSS officer to improve/guide the
trajectory of the group;
· Assist in the development of Community-based PSS modalities and conduct general information
sessions on mental health and well-being, to target groups and record feedback;
· Conduct focus group discussions to gather information on gaps in PSS support to the
community;
· Facilitate weekly evening/daytime open/drop-in PSS sessions;
· Ensure tracking of participants for reporting purposes;
· Encourage and facilitate participation of beneficiaries in the planning, execution, and evaluation
of activities;
· Identify people in need of referral to specialized mental-health services and facilitate referral to
case-management or other external referrals if needed
About you
To be successful in this role, you must have diploma or equivalent professional qualification; social-work, counselling psychology qualifications preferred.

Required experience and competencies
Minimum requirements:
• Minimum 1 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent relevant academic background.
• Experience in PSS programming a strong asset
• Good IT skills and videoconferencing tools experience
• Experience with following standard procedures and guidelines
• Intermediate English proficiency
• Fluency in local language: Turkish and/or Arabic and good speaking skills in English is preferable
• Experience working in the humanitarian field (preferably experience from southern Turkey)
• Experience in protection activities and/or social or health sector.
• An understanding of humanitarian/civil society issues in Turkey and the region
• Experience working with Syrian refugees
• Strong organisational and communication skills
• Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships in a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural and multidisciplinary
environment
• Ability to multi-task and cope with competing demands under tight deadlines
• Flexibility, enthusiasm, and willingness to learn from others

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for Nationals.
