Mission and objectives
UNDP has been working to ensure better lives for the Filipino people since 1965, and has been committed to helping the country achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as well as national development priorities as set out in the Philippine Development Plan and the UN Philippines Partnership Framework for Sustainable Development. UNDP’s Country Programme Document (2019-2023) focuses on three key areas of intervention: improving access to social services for the poor, supporting the transition to environmentally sustainable development, and responding to the drivers of conflict. Bringing better services to the marginalized and at-risk is done by further developing efforts of local government units (LGUs), strengthening governance in key national agencies, as well as encouraging more citizens to engage in government policies and programs. UNDP works to enhance risk-informed policies and programs, support the implementation of the Paris Agreement and improve natural resource management as part of its efforts towards climate action. The CPD also guides the country towards peace and resilience by assisting in the transition of armed groups to civilians, establishing transitional justice systems and community platforms, and providing socioeconomic opportunities for those in conflict-affected areas. UNDP also emphasizes human rights, gender equality, empowerment of marginalized and vulnerable populations, and innovation as fundamental, guiding principles throughout its work. Context
The Accelerating NDC through Circular Economy in Cities Project (ACE Project), a project funded by the Government of Japan, entails a demonstration of how CE can be implemented at the city level and is expected to benefit national government agencies, local government units (LGUs) in the target cities, participating private sector companies (including micro and small enterprises), academic and science organizations, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), informal waste collectors as well as communities and households through access to data and utilization of data platform, policy support at national and subnational level, CE solutions/business models, partnerships, and knowledge exchange, capacity building. As part of the set activities for the ACE Project, a learning exchange visit will be held in Japan to provide exposure to circular economy best practices. This activity will require the support of an online volunteer who has expertise in translation, fluent in Japanese, to coordinate and facilitate online communications and meetings between UNDP and its Japanese counterparts, in preparation for the learning exchange visit, targeted to be held in the second quarter of 2023.
Task description
The ACE project will require the support of an Online Volunteer with translation experience who is fluent in Japanese, to coordinate and facilitate online communications and meetings between UNDP and its Japanese co-organizers/counterparts, in preparation for the learning exchange visit, targeted to be held in the second quarter of 2023. The Online Volunteer will fulfill the following tasks: 1) Translates documentation and written correspondence etc.; 2) Interprets oral conversations, discussions, and agreements, especially when attending online meetings with co-organizers and other Japanese counterparts; 3) Responds to queries relating to the area of responsibility.
