Awards Management Unit (AMU)
Established in January 2016, Awards Management Unit (AMU) is a global unit responsible for identifying, securing, and managing all funding from governments across the world. AMU is a bridge between donors and the field: providing expert technical advice to the field, while maintaining consistency and managing compliance and risk. This unit ensures that donor compliance policies and procedures are implemented consistently and supports all staff working across the grants management cycle for all restricted funding from global government sources.
The department includes the following teams: Program and Award Support, Strategic Partnerships, Compliance and Policy, Business Development, Planning and Strategic Operations, and Training.
The Purpose of the Role
The Strategic Project Manager will work closely with the Director of Planning and Strategic Operations and AMU Senior Leaders to support the department in driving progress and achieving success against the strategic goals and priorities for AMU. This includes leading on select AMU strategic projects and initiatives.
Key Working Relationships
Director Planning and Strategic Operations; AMU Strategic Operations team, AMU Senior Management team and range of stakeholders from within and outside of AMU based on the projects.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
• Support AMU leadership in delivering and handling key strategic AMU projects and pieces of work in accordance with AMU priorities. This includes:
o Lead and deliver projects that are a strategic priority to the unit from inception to completion, working collaboratively and using best practice approaches.
o In conjunction with project sponsors, teams and key partners, lead on analysis and problem solving in order to identify solutions in a structured way.
o Coach and manage colleagues assigned to individual projects and workstreams
o Lead consultations with stakeholders, develop actionable recommendations, and influence colleagues based on developed action items.
• Accountable for portfolio level tracking and reporting of AMU strategic initiatives to support management oversight.
• Help to define and develop project approach, tools and templates for the team and department.
• Lead Planning and Strategic Operations Team improvement initiatives.
Essential Requirements: Note that diversity of experience counts (i.e., paid and volunteer work; lived experiences; transferable skills from another industry or from a gap year, etc.) and gap years will not be penalized on resumes
• Experience working as a project manager or strategy consultant managing projects that that have multiple stakeholders, complex problems, and require organizational change.
• Creative and inclusive problem solver with demonstrated experience handling complex analysis with little / no oversight and preparing and leading productive problem-solving sessions.
• Caring people leader who has experience managing or coaching colleagues on pieces of work / workstream.
• Client counselor with ability to influence colleagues, develop trust-based relationships based on expertise, and communicate top-level messaging.
Desirable requirements
• Experience working with different project methodologies e.g. Agile project management and/or service design
• Experience in a humanitarian or development organization, or demonstrated interest for development / humanitarian issues
Compensation:
Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
