Organizational Setting

The Governing Bodies Servicing Division (CSG) provides support to the Secretariat of the Conference and the Council, and supports all Governing and Statutory Bodies of FAO. It houses the Multilingualism expertise of the Organization, delivering corporate language goods and services. CSG also provides Protocol and Meetings services to the Organization.
The Meeting Services branch (CSGM) which carries out the scheduling and programming of all physical, virtual and hybrid meetings of the FAO Governing and Statutory Bodies, FAO corporate events, informal meetings and other meetings. It is responsible for overseeing and supporting the planning and provision of logistical and audio-visual facilities for the conduct of such meetings.

The position is located in the Meeting Services branch (CSGM) of Governing Bodies Servicing Division (CSG) at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy.

Main Purpose

The Audio-Visual Technician performs a limited number of technical support duties contributing to the timely and effective delivery of audio-visual services in corporate meeting rooms and other locations such as atrium, catering areas and terrace.

Supervision Received/Exercised

The Audio-Visual Technician reports to the Conference Technician, Audio-Visual team. Supervision received provides close technical and procedural guidance and on-the-job learning opportunities.

Working Relationships

The Audio-Visual Technician interacts with a limited variety of colleagues from within the immediate work unit to exchange technical information and provide standard technical support services.

Key Functions/Results

• Provide operational support for audio-visual services in FAO corporate meeting rooms during in-presence and hybrid events.
• Ensure efficient functioning of simultaneous interpretation equipment, microphones and video projectors providing technical support if required.
• Perform technical set-up of the virtual platform in meeting rooms, for hybrid meetings.
• Provide maintenance for the equipment in all control rooms, simultaneous interpretation equipment, electronic voting system, web streaming, digital recording and other related equipment.
• Install and test new equipment in meeting rooms, control rooms and interpretation booths.
• Maintain an updated inventory of the audio-visual equipment and identify replacement needs.
• Perform other duties, as required.

Impact of Work

The Audio-Visual Technician participates as part of a team in the provision of technical audio-visual services. Actions affect the immediate clients served. The impact of work usually does not go beyond the individual work assignment.

Minimum Requirements

Education: Secondary School Education.
Experience: One year of relevant experience in the installation and maintenance of audio-video equipment including specific experience in the set-up of virtual platforms for hybrid meetings.
Language: Minimum knowledge (basic – level A) of English.
IT Skills: Knowledge of the MS Office applications, Internet and office technology equipment.

Residency: General Service Staff are recruited locally. To be eligible for this position, candidates must be nationals of the country of the duty station or possess an existing visa/work permit, and reside within commuting distance of the duty station at the time of the application. "Commuting distance" means the distance within which staff members can travel daily between their place of work and their residence.
