Africa Regional Office: Business Development Intern

 

The Global Green Growth Institute internship program (also called "Grow Green" Program) provides a unique learning opportunity for students and recent graduates from diverse academic backgrounds. The program is designed for talented and motivated individuals skilled in areas relevant to GGGI’s operations. The program allows selected candidates to gain insight into the work of the Institute and provides assistance, and training in various professional fields in a multicultural environment. REGIONAL OFFICE FOR AFRICA 

GGGI established a Regional Office for Africa, located in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire. The Regional Office manages and coordinates GGGI’s current activities in Africa region, serving to engage with Africa regional organizations, developing new regional activities, developing, and managing engagements with countries interested to join GGGI. The Office also supports the engagement of GGGI member and partner countries with the Green Climate Fund. The Africa Regional Office is led by GGGI’s Director for Africa.

 

CURRENT OPPORTUNITY

We are looking for a talented individual to work with us in the Regional Office for Africa, Business Development Unit based in Abidjan. The ideal candidate will have a passion for sustainability and possess project management experience to support the team on project management, strategic donor relations management and donor outreach (current and potential). Current, potential partners and donors encompass governmental donors, private sector, foundations, and international financing institutions as well as innovative financing modalities.

The Business Development Intern, with a particular focus on project management will assist in the planning, execution, monitoring, and evaluation of various projects, and in ensuring the overall successful delivery of projects, as well as the preparation of materials in support of advocacy and resource mobilization activities. The latter entails assistance with the development of tailored fundraising materials, making the case for funding for GGGI to targeted stakeholders.

The assignment will include the followings responsibilities but not limited to:

  • Assist in developing project proposals and business plans.
  • Project planning: assist in the development of project proposals, including timelines, budget, and resource allocation. The intern will work with the project team to identify project goals, objectives, and deliverables.
  • Project Execution: support the project team in implementing project plans, including coordinating with team members, managing project documentation, and monitoring project progress against timelines.
  • Project Monitoring and Evaluation: assist in the ongoing monitoring of project progress, including tracking project milestones, identifying risks and issues, and reporting on project status. The intern will also assist in evaluating project outcomes, including gathering feedback from stakeholders, and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Communication: responsible for maintaining effective communication between the project team, stakeholders, and other relevant parties. The intern will prepare reports, presentations, and other materials to communicate project progress and outcomes.
  • Administrative Support: provide administrative support to the project team as needed, including scheduling meetings, preparing meeting agendas and minutes, and managing project documentation.
  • Overall, as an intern with a focus on project management, you will play a critical role in ensuring the successful delivery of projects within the organization. Your attention to detail, strong communication skills, and ability to work effectively in a team will be essential to your success in this role.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

ELIGIBILITY                                             

Applicants to the GGGI internship program must at the time of application meet the following requirements:

  • Recently graduated from a master’s or PhD program prior to internship assignment, within the last 12 months.
  • Be engaged or recently engaged in academic study in a field directly related to the Institute’s work.
  • Bilingual with excellent command of English and French, and preferable Portuguese.

 

QUALIFICATION

The Applicant is, at least, required to meet the following qualifications:

  • At least 2 years project management experience or certification is preferred.
  • Knowledge of sustainable development, green economy, and renewable energy concepts.
  • Excellent research, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Good understanding of resource mobilization, business development or an interest and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines, and to perform various tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent spoken and written English and French and strong skills in Portuguese, and other languages will be an added advantage.
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A minimum of a master’s degree in economics, Finance, Business, Environmental Sciences, or relevant areas
  • International exposure and interest in Africa.

 

SELECTION PROCESS
  • Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered.
  • GGGI evaluates applications based on eligibility requirements, relevance of academic study and work experience (if any); and the level of interest and motivation to contribute to development work.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Duration: The internship program is for at least three months and up to six months. Once selected, interns must begin their internship either prior to or within 12 months of graduation. 

Stipend: GGGI interns receive a monthly stipend of USD $500 per month (unless agreed to be funded by sponsoring institutions). All costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation, and living expenses must be borne by either the interns themselves or sponsoring institutions.  

Visa: GGGI will provide a supporting letter for visa. Interns will be responsible for obtaining and financing the necessary visas.  

Travel: Intern will arrange and finance their travel to the internship location.  

Medical Insurance: Interns must present proof of valid medical insurance to GGGI upon returning the signed internship contract.

Confidentiality: Interns must keep confidential all unpublished information obtained during the internship and may not publish any documents based on such information.  

Academic Credit: Interns may get academic credit from their institution of higher education for the internship. Interns need to check with their university to confirm their academic credit policy for internships.  

Working Hours: interns are expected to work during normal working hours. Leave should be pre-approved by the Intern Manager, and the latter should inform the Office of HR accordingly.

Learning Outcomes: before completion of the internship, Intern Managers are expected to review the learning outcomes with the intern.

Certificate: provided upon successful completion of the internship, upon request.
