The International Potato Center (CIP) is seeking a dynamic and experienced Legal Specialist to support our Legal Team in Lima, Peru. The Office of Legal Affairs provides legal advisory services and ensures effective management of legal and contractual risks by providing such advice and assistance to the Area leaders of research and operations in HQ and regions.
About the role:
The successful candidate will plan and conduct operational plans and projects to contribute with the Unit’s goals. The Legal Specialist will report to the Legal Manager and will be based in Lima, Peru.

Key responsibilities:

Provide accurate, relevant, and timely advice to managers and other members of staff on a variety of legal topics that relate to the CIP’s business sector and products and services.

Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating various contracts and agreements.

Mitigating legal risks by advising and supporting implementation of CIP’s policies and procedures.

Ensuring compliance with national and international laws and regulations that apply to CIP in our operations across Americas, Africa, and Asia.

Promoting legal, compliance and risk management best practice throughout CIP.

Communicating with and managing partners, suppliers, and collaborators of the legal department.

Designing and delivering legal training to CIP business unites.

Staying up to date with changes to legislation, particularly in relation to laws, rules and regulations that directly affect CIP’s business and specific agricultural and environmental research activities.

Coordinating background checks and validating partners, contractors, and suppliers.

Liaising with senior members of staff.

Analyze and solve business problems related to the daily activities.

Solve complex problems and support the legal team to ensure that plan/ projects are properly implemented.

Operates within a service workflow to enable timely and specialized delivery of legal support.

Recommends process improvements for daily operating procedures.


Requirements

What are we looking for?

Bachelor’s degree in law, admitted to the Bar.

At least 6 years of professional experience in similar position.

Proficient in MS Office, especially in Excel.

Advanced qualitative and quantitative analytical skills.

Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Spanish.

Excellent innovation, accountability, teamwork, and integrity skills.

Analytical thinking, planning & organization, communication, and customer service competences.

Knowledge of intellectual property law applicable to science and development is an asse
