| Role objectives |
All design work under this ToR is related to rehabilitation and/or extension of water production and distribution facilities and low cost-small scale sanitation systems. The work does not include design of conventional treatment water or sanitation facilities.
Prepare survey plans for the team.
Conduct detailed needs assessment and technical survey of WASH in community (rural and urban) . Determine longitudes and latitudes of important features and boundaries in survey areas, using theodolites, levels, total station, and satellite-based global positioning systems (GPS).
Planning and conducting technical and engineering survey for selected water supply projects including topographical survey and recoding site’s related details.
Prepare layouts of communities (rural and urban) with all relevant information for the design team.
Develop topographical maps from sites using total stations, geodetic GPS station equipment. Compute geodetic measurements and interpret survey data in order to determine positions, shapes, and elevations of geomorphic and topographic features.
Prepare comprehensive water supply projects survey data and reports to help design team.
Conduct post-construction or during construction survey ensuring construction is in accordance with the BoQs and designs.
Surveying of earth surface for water supply projects to determine precise locations, measure points, elevations, coordinates, lines, areas and contours for construction of water supply projects.
Prepare and maintain sketches, maps, reports and detailed descriptions of surveys.
Verify the accuracy of survey data, including measurement and calculations conducted at field level.
Determine locations of key water supply system elements such as source, reservoir, valves (air valve, washout valve, gate valve…). Calculate heights, depths, relative positions, property lines, and other characteristics of terrains.
Perform water quantity measurement.
Establish fixed points for use in making maps, using geodetic and engineering instruments.
Clearly mark the benchmarks and main and tie stations to be used during implementation.
Frequent travels to project sites in all of the provinces as per the needs and ask.
Capacity building of survey engineers at national and sub-national levels through on the job or classroom-based training/workshops. Facilitate Training and orientation of UNICEF implementing partners and other engineers.
Respond to survey queries if any during implementation.
Support and provide guidance to the contractors during projects’ implementation. Working closely with engineers of implementing organizations to make sure the projects are implemented and completed on timely manner, ensuring quality and requirements as per the approved designs (BoQ and Drawings).
Support UNICEF WASH in Emergency response.
Keep a close liaison with UNICEF WASH team at country and zonal offices’ levels.
And any other tasks assigned by UNICEF.
