UN-HABITAT POLICY, LEGISLATION AND GOVERNANCE SECTION (PLGS) The (Urban) Policy, Legislation and Governance Section (PLGS) is one of the five sections of the Urban Practices Branch of UN-Habitat. It plays a critical role in implementing the Agency’s Strategic Plan, flagship programmes, the relevant 2030 development agenda and the New Urban Agenda as it serves as the UN-Habitat focal point and global solutions center for Urban Policy, Legislation and Governance. The Section in collaboration with other parts of the agency both at Headquarters and in the field, works to support governments and partners in knowledge and tools development, capacity building, policy dialogue as well as advisory services focused on: Coordinating the Agency’s substantive, normative and operational work on Policy, Legislation and Governance; Developing, documenting and disseminating policy, legislation and governance norms, standards, tools, methodologies, regulatory frameworks, operating procedures and inspiring practices at all levels i.e. global, regional, national and sub-national; Designing tailored-made policy, legislation and governance solutions for cities, regions and metropolises, enhance the urban-rural continuum, with a view to reduce spatial inequality and poverty and also promote shared prosperity; Generating and maintaining knowledge and data (including Indexes and database) on Urban Policy, Legislation and Governance; Leading the testing/piloting of norms, standards, tools, methodologies, regulatory frameworks, through initiatives, programmes and projects on policy, legislation and governance; Providing technical assistance, quality assurance/control, policy advice and services on norms, standards, tools, methodologies and regulatory frameworks to internal and external partners including on design, monitoring, implementation and evaluation of operational program

Context

The PLGS is among the operative and normative sections within the Urban Practices Branch, Global Solutions Division. It aligns itself with one of UN-Habitat’s objectives: to advance knowledge on sustainable urban development through normative tools, methodologies, and standards. Specifically, PLGS develops, adapts and upscales norms, standards, tools, and methodologies, related to urban policies, urban-rural linkages, urban legislation and governance, and metropolitan management. The National Urban Policy Program carries out normative and formative functions related to National Urban Policy in line with the implementation of the New urban Agenda.

Task description

PLGS) is looking for an innovative online volunteer to assist the National Urban Policy team with the section app to improve its functionality and add features. The successful volunteer will collaborate with the team to identify areas for improvement and will use their skills and experience to add creative features to make the app livelier and engaging. The described below will be the list of tasks: • Develop an API for a podcast feature in the Laravel backend, which will be integrated into the React Native frontend of the app . • Provide assistance in publishing the app on both the Google Play Store and the App Store for iOS users. • Implement a feature in the app that notifies users on post - popup alert message in Laravel. • Incorporate a bookmark and share feature in the frontendfront end, allowing users to save and share stories they enjoy or upcoming events they're interested in. • Provide UX/UI assistance for the implementation of the new features in the app. • Implement Google authentication for user accounts to enable login to the app easily. • Testing and piloting the app for bugs and compatibility issues before publishing online.
