Job Purpose and Organizational Context
The UNDSS Yemen intends to create a roster of Radio Operations Assistants who can be deployed to the following location: Marib and the nearest duty stations in Yemen. The incumbent is based in UNDSS office, servicing the UN common telecommunications systems in Yemen. The radio network is monitored 24 hours a day and requires the person holding the post to work shifts and holidays when required. The incumbent will report to the FSCO / Senior LSA or/and SOC supervisor.
Communication focal point for all UN staff in the duty station, track all UN vehicle movement in the country, so that the locations of all vehicles/staff moving in the field are known, Monitor voice and data traffic on all UN radio networks. Update call sign lists and other contact information for the UN operation in the duty station regularly and Radio Programming as required and maintain a strict radio discipline, correct wrong use of procedures, and as soon as possible report any irregularities relating to misuse or faults to the supervisor.

Operate any data communication equipment used by the UN common radio room, satellite telephone (email and fax), etc, maintain all ICT equipment used in the Security Operations Center (SOC) and keep them in working order, distributed information related to the communication system is to all agencies and performs any other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Experience
Education:
  • Secondary education is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Telecommunications Engineering, or Security field is highly desirable but is not a requirement.
Experience:
  • At least five years of relevant experience in Radio Operations, Telecommunication, Security Operations, or other related field of work with secondary education is required. Or at least two years of experience with a focus on telecommunications and/or related disciplines (computer science, engineering) in communications/radio operations preferably within the military, national police, fire brigade, or other security organization is required. 
  • Prior experience with the UN system or an international NGO is preferable.
  • Experience in diplomatic security and protection is considered an asset. 
  • Knowledge of the Radio phonetic alphabet is an advantage.
  • Solid computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint) is an advantage.
  • Technical Radio Experience, troubleshooting, and programming is desirable
  • Preference will be given to successful candidates from the locality of the duty station is desired.

Language requirements: 

  • Fluency in both written and spoken English and Arabic required.
